Change the color of imported lines

If I import a .dxf file into PenMap for Android, how do I change the color of imported lines?

    Hello Steve,

I'm sorry but there is no way to change the color of imported lines yet.

    Regards

    Hi Cornelia,

We have seen instances where changes to the template have resulted in different line coloring of imported dxf files - just can't see the rhyme or reason of what is controlling it - red lines only doesn't seem like a good option.

Any idea if/when it might be changed?

    Hi Steve,

    I'm sorry I can't say if/when there will be a change.

Maybe I can explain a little bit what happens. I assume, that Penmap takes over the color from layer of the dxf-file. It's possible, that all layers are set to red. Dxf allows to give an extra color to each element. I don't think that Penmap use this independent color.

If you already have a template, where the layer-name matches to the layer-name in your dxf file, the color from your template is used. Most of the time it's hard to figure out the layer-names before import, if you have a list of them you can adapt your template.

May be good to have a look to your dxf-File and figure out if there is another issue/possibility. May be we can figure out something which brings you froward.

If you are interested in, please contact penmap_support@trimble.com and attach the dxf file.

    Best regards

    Hello Steve,

thanks for the detailed information. I looked at your data.

Penmap uses the color of the layer for the lines.

All lines are on one layer, so they are all the same color.

In Penmap there is no way to save the color to the element.
If you want to use different colors, please work with different layers for the lines.
This seems you have made in the data of SMQ_PIT_Opt-10J_B3_34mRL.pdt - that's why you have two colors in the screenshot there.

    Best Regards

    Cornelia,

    Thankyou for your reply.

My understanding is (as it seems yours is also) that a Penmap line takes

its color from the Layer color setting rather than from the Entity color

    setting as I had expected.

This seems odd. Why not take the setting from the entity? You have a

situation where a file will show correctly (by entity color) in almost any

other piece of software that can read a .dxf and yet not display the same

    way in Penmap.

Could you explain the technical reasoning behind this programming decision?

Can this be changed in a future version - I am sure that I would not be the

only user who would find this useful.
