How to clean up project data from a field device? You can clean up project data from a field device in the following ways in WorksManager.

  1. Archive design/ design version
  2. Archive project
  3. Remove device from project
1. Archive design/ design version - this removes data from every device assigned to that specific design

2. Archive project - this removes the entire project data (office, field) from every single device in the project

3. Remove device from project - this removes the entire project data (office/ field) from that particular device

Note that all these actions happen in the cloud. The actual data gets cleaned up in the device on the next sync to the cloud.

WorksManager auto archive
In addition to the above, WorksManager has a built-in auto archival mechanism. As you edit designs creating more design versions, WorksManager system auto archives them - keeping the last three versions active (including the latest current version) and automatically archiving the rest. For instance, when you create Parking Lot.V04, the system auto archives Parking Lot.V01; when you create Parking Lot.V05, it auto archives Parking Lot.V02 as well… and so on.

What happens to the design data when archived? The design data is preserved in the cloud and is safe. They will be just removed from the field devices on the next sync. You can view and access the archived design data from WorksManager anytime.

When I archive design from WorksManager, does it get removed from the device automatically? Not automatically. The field device has to synchronize with the cloud, either manually or automatically before it gets removed.

Can I choose to auto-archive all the design versions except the last one?
It is not configurable in the product right now. The system leaves the last three versions by default. However, you can archive any of these designs manually anytime.

What is the difference between archive and delete? While archived data is always available to retrieve back, deleted data is not. Today, in WorksManager, it gets removed immediately. In the future, we might design the system to keep the deleted designs for 30 days in the bin and later delete them permanently.

Where can I access the field data (recorded points - .csv) of GCS machines for archived designs? In the archived state, you can access recorded points from TCC in the 'Archived' folder. This is the path: Trimble Synchronizer Data -> <device folder> -> Archived -> <Project name>-<Design name> -> recorded points.csv.

How to unarchive a design/project? You can unarchive a design/project in the following ways in WorksManager.
  1. Unarchive design version from Active Designs list
  2. Unarchive design / design version from Archived Designs list
  3. Unarchive project
1. Unarchive design version from Active Designs list - Select any active design on the list and click on 'View archived versions' option on the left panel to view the archived versions.

Select any archived design version in the list and click 'Unarchive' on the left panel to unarchive the design.

Over the past few months, I've found that Unarchiving a Project doesn't function correctly. There's been occasions when we've returned to projects that have archived. I've unarchived the project, which appears to work, showing the Earthworks devices within the boundary. However, despite multiple syncs with the devices, they will not identify the reinstated project to retrieve designs from. I'm forced in to creating a new Project with all the same data. I've not checked this functionality with GCS yet.

Is it possible to archive a project or delete it?
