Karla,

I will look into this, but if you can please submit your inquiry into the community as a Question (unrelated to the Release Notes), it will get more visibility and input from your colleagues and Trimble. Thanks.

I have a project in UTM coordinates and I want to convert it to Local Coordinates so i could have the background map on when I am in Local Coordinates. I am pretty sure I used Site Calibration to do this last time.

Hi Karla,

Can you please give us more information on what you need to achieve? Thanks.

Any chance there is a workflow for Site Calibration under the new release?

Thanks John! That's great news!  I agree.  Trimble does need to address the use of these new processors.  The performance gains look outstanding.

see the kmp_infinity thread. However, TBC works great on our Ryzen 9 machine

Ralph, i had the same concern about AMD processors after our IT guy pulled the trigger on a Ryzen 9 processor for our Pix4D based on the faster processing specs for that software. when I installed TBC I got a kmp_infinity warning. There is a thread on this forum which addresses and fixes it. I have had no issues since applying the fix. Trimble does need to address the use of AMD processors in future releases as they are becoming much better than the current Intel Processors.

Ralph, I just got this helpful reply from another user (who for some reason couldn't post a reply here):

"I can work with TBC although I have an AMD Ryzen Threadripper processor as you can see in the following screenshot:

I remember that I had some issues at the beginning and after changing a couple of administrator stuff or similar, I was able to run it. So far I remember I even saw it on a post on the community or similar, but I´m not sure. I hope this helps."

Thank you very much David.

Ouch!  It doesn't get much more extreme than that....

I am inquiring about an equally powerful alternate processor/hardware setup you could consider.

I just got this reply from one of our testers/power users:

"Right now TBC won't even start on an AMD Threadripper machine. It crashes on startup."

Thanks David.  I will check out the posts.

Ralph,

I will contact the development team and get back to you. Thanks.

Hi David,

The TBC 5.21 release notes have a important notice about AMD processors not being supported.  I am about to pull the trigger on a high end desktop with an AMD Ryzen Threadripper 64 core processor.  The reason for the powerful machine is due to the use of Pix4D with large data sets.  How will this processor adversely affect TBC 5.21's performance.

Thank you,

Ralph

The release notes say Windows 7 is no longer supported.

Windows 7 no longer supported - On January 14, 2020, Microsoft officially ended its support for the Windows 7 desktop operating system, which could leave computers vulnerable to cyber attacks or dangerous software bugs. In accordance, TBC v5.21 and later is not supported on computers running the Windows 7 operating system.

We still have a couple of crews running around with Windows 7 machines.  Does this mean they won't get prompted to install 5.2.1, that they'll get prompted and the install will fail, or that they'll get prompted, the install will (probably) work but that Trimble will not offer technical support to them?

Thanks,

David

Haa haa, John...I wish I could tell you more, but I don't think you will be disappointed in either the release date or the enhancements.

That works thanks David - another 4gb download LOL - BTW I heard there is 5.30 coming out soon - any ETA and teasers?

John,

I am sorry for the inconvenience. The page is being updated now. There is, however, a link to the 5.21 download at the top of the main page.
