 Topsoil Stripping

I have a question about topsoil stripping.  Many of our sites are commercial developments with pre-existing structures/pavement/islands etc that needs demoed.  So I can't simply use the "Define Topsoil" command on the site boundary to define my stripping areas because it would pick everything inside that boundary.  What I have been doing is creating a topsoil stripping item in the MSI manager and then identifying those stripping regions as an existing area.  While it does get me the correct quantities, it instead shows up on a existing ground improvement takeoff report instead of the topsoil section of an earthwork report.

Just wondering why the proposed replace topsoil process is done that way, but the stripped area is handled differently?  And is anyone aware of a better way to get those quantities on an earthwork report other than creating a whole bunch of closed polygons to identify stripped areas?

I agree, the topsoil stripping system seems to be inconsistent with other functions in the program. One annoying issue I run into is the lack of any way to review the areas that have already been defined as stripping areas. This becomes very annoying when working in a project like you described with multiple areas of varying thickness.

Because of the inconsistencies, I don't use the define stripping command. I do the same as you and just define topsoil stripping as I would any other demolition area in the MSI manager.
