We have been using the free Trimble Business Center 4.10. With the latest Windows 10 builds and updates, it will not install. It will say not compatible or just gives a bluescreen. Are the new versions still free to use if it's unlicensed?

The later versions (currently at v5.60) can be installed unlicensed and will run in Viewer mode. Here's a link to the Document showing the full feature list across the unlicensed version and available Editions and Modules.

With that you can Import & review field data, view projects, & export to Trimble field devices
& other software.

There were a large numbers of features that worked in 4.10 that don't work in the current versions. They eliminated most of the "Create X" functions that were allowed in 4.10. Using Trimble Subscription licensing, there is a "Starter" option that I can't imagine is priced very high considering the low yearly cost for Site and Field.

I'm surprised it won't install on Windows 10. There are some built in Windows abilities to run in legacy mode with specific programs. I'd google that if you really want 4.10 to work.

Thanks for your question, David. TBC v4.10 is not supported on Windows 10. Feel free to reach out to your local dealer to get a license for TBC to support your needs for our software.

You can install TBC and use it as a viewer. You will be able to view things, but not even create a view different than plan view.  No point spreadsheet and probably not even save the file.

Must be a rather unfortunate driver/hardware issue in your case. At what point does it crash? Dongle driver, DirectX?
Win10 was released in July 2015, TBC 4.0 in September 2017, so it definitely worked with Win10. I can't recall too many issues regards Win10 from my old SITECH days. (Only the mobile device center for old USB-devices had some issues and needed a special patch)

I have a rather old Surface Pro 3 as private laptop that runs an up-to-date Win10 Pro. And I just installed and can run TBC-HCE-4.10.
Before the switch to V5.0 there always were two TBC versions, the standard survey version and the HCE (Heavy Civil Edition). From my understanding only the HCE version would have some of the CAD functions unlocked.

The old HCE edition was/is quite handy, since it supports quite a few CAD-functions and can be used for basic editing/preparing and machine deploying of simple designs. You could create a 3D-machine model from a 2D-DXF.

In the new Version you can't even draw a simple polyline or text. The only thing you can do is to re-layer/rename items from an imported file and export it again.
