Point Label export

    Hej!

I have some trouble with point labels. When I export them and open in another cad software the symbol shows as something else. I think that it would be great to be able to choose not to have a symbol and just the labels and a cad point. As it is now I need to choose a symbol. See the attached screenshots.

    This symbol

    Becomes this

First image is TBC and the second is in draftsight,  the circle becomes (

    This symbol

    Becomes this

First image is TBC and the second is in draftsight,  the + becomes an A turned upside down.

Am I doing something wrong or why is it like this?

    /Magnus

That was some interesting reading. Seems to be an ongoing problem.

I don´t think it's a reasonable solution to expect my costumers to manually place the .shx-file in some folder on their computer. Often they are having trouble opening dwg-files at all...

Thank you for leading to that tread though!

The post that Radoslaw provided the link to does cover this.

    Thanks Radek

If I receive a DWG file from somewhere and it contains Text items defined with a font that I dont have in my AutoCAD installation - AutoCAD tells me that I don't have the Font that is referenced in the DWG and I can then find a SHX file that I want it to use instead or find the one that I want it to use - so AutoCAD users must be used to this issue - when they import our DWG file, it will reference the Symbol.SHX file and on opening the file in AutoCAD it will tell them that they dont have the Symbol.SHX file and allows them to go find a SHX file to use - While I can agree that it should be easier than this - AutoCAD is partly the issue here - and while we can all ask TBC to be better every time an issue happens we also have to look at the environment we are working in - AutoCAD supports literally hundreds of external files and references and it references them in the DWG but does not embed them in the DWG and this applies to any Text Font not just the symbol font file.

I would recommend that you call the client, and send them the Symbol shx file and walk them through placing it in their AutoCAD installation in the correct location if you are working with them a lot - that way once you have done that - it will work every time.

While we can request that TBC does it differently or better in the future - it does work today if you do it the right way

Ok, i hear you. But still, if there was an option to not have a symbol and keep the point when labeling it would be an easy way to export points to dwg and keep their info.

Maybe we could Explode the symbols?

Yes we can, if I only explode them and export them the X becomes a #. But if I first explode them and then remove pointlabels from the point the symbol disappears and i can export the point as a point and the label as text.

I know it seems like all we(I) write here on the forum is complaining about TBC and things that don't work as we expect them to when in fact I like TBC very much and it gets the job done every time. It's just frustrating when a bug appear out of nowhere when you are in a hurry to deliver data.

Thank you Alan for fast and great support as always!

I think having blocks as an alternate option would be better.

    Hi Magnus,

Replacing the SHX file is fine for some. but not an option for all. I came up with a couple of other workarounds, but they do require a copy of some form of CAD software to make the edits in.

Swap a font symbol in a CAD drawing after data export from Trimble Business Center - KOREC Group Ltd - powered by HappyF…

Changing a Text Symbol to a Block in a Drawing Exported from Trimble Business Center - KOREC Group Ltd - powered by Happ…
