Is there a SMART TEXT code for just the Material Layer for layer within the MSI manager. There is a command for Material Layer Thickness (MT) for the overall thickness but not individual layers.

    What are you trying to select and what do you want to label?

     

    The Material Layers ultimately end up as Surfaces (Subgrade surfaces) which can be labeled I believe - I am not sure what you are trying to do here - can you describe the workflow that you are trying to achieve and what you want the end result to be so I can better answer the question here.

     

    Apologies that I am missing the underlying question here

    Hi Alan,

     

    Thank you for responding. What i'm trying to achieve is design a smart text that will allow that will display the individual site improvement material layers in order to create a CDP (Construction Design Plan) drawing. 

     

    Also is it possible to achieve this in Plan Sets and not it Plan View.

    Thanks for your time on the phone today - awesome to meet you and get this discussion underway. For anyone else watching this thread I have a question.

     

    What Bruce is asking for is the ability to create a Site Improvement Legend on a Drawing Submittal (a bit like the Cut Fill Map Legend but different) that captures all of the Site Improvements applied in a Takeoff  / Site Model and creates a Legend Block that can be placed directly on a Drawing Sheet or Dynaviewed to a drawing sheet that shows something like this for each Site Improvement used. He wants that to be Dynamically updated as Site Improvement Material Layer Thicknesses change or if additional material Layers are added or if new Site Improvement Areas are added after the Site Improvement Legend is created.

     

     

    The Squares would be filled with the applied site improvement color (in the Map of the project)

     

    The Site Improvement Name followed by the Site Improvement Layers and Layer Thicknesses placed automatically using Smart Text that updates or can be refreshed whenever changes have been made.

     

    Do others out there have the same need - I think it is a great idea / request and would like to gauge the interest from others out there doing similar work.

     

    Bruce's company does Site Engineering Design for their clients and this is a deliverable, however I could also see this as a Drawing that I would give a Foreman on site to know what was expected in different areas of the job.

    @Alan Sharp yes. This is something I have asked for myself. It is useful for passing on information to someone who is not using CAD; presentations, deliverables, takeoff verification.

    Yes @Alan Sharp! I actually have been having to do this manually. Generating a label table and exporting/importing it then explode it to edit it. It would be awesome to have a color type map reference.

     I have been building a chart myself too and adding it into my takeoff reports. I would love to see this in the program. This question was asked during my Civil Takeoffs From Dirt to Dollars presentation at Dimensions.

    Awesome. The legend looks good and the workflow looks simple. Will the legend also recognize textures?

    You just pick the reference surface i.e. oG or FG and you can create as many Legends as you want (over and above yourself that is)

    Please check out the TML named SiteImprovementLegend" that was posted today. You should get the 5.0 patch first (which was also posted today)
