TBC is placing curves in front of Curve start positions...

  • 1.  TBC is placing curves in front of Curve start positions...

    Posted 10-01-2020 01:36

    Hi There,

Just wondering if any one is having a similar issue and if there is a solution.

I'm using string coding in my top surveys, on my data logger the line work appears as it should.

When the feature codes are processed in TBC, where a sting has a Curve Start at a particular point the curve is actually starting in front of the point and distorting the survey.

I can break the string at the point to resolve this, but this means that after i process my surveys i have to then meticulously check each curve start position for the "error"....

    Is this a known issue?

    Is there a solution?

Or am i doing something wrong in my survey?

I have attached two images that show the string on the TSC7 data logger and the processed Feature string.

    TIA.

    Damien

Which "start curve" option did you choose in the Feature Definition Manager?  For starting curves there are:

    • start tangent arc
    • start non-tangent arc
    • start a smooth curve

It's possible which one you are using may affect how it gets drawn in TBC. In my FXL file, I use "smooth curve".

    Hi Robert,

I don't know, i don't have the ability to create feature coding in the licence of TBC my organisation has.

This problem occurs randomly and i use the same curve start definition each time.

    Regards,

From what I've heard, and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Feature Definition Manager isn't tied to a TBC license. It's a program you can run that isn't part of the TBC program.

    Hi Robert,

    Thanks for your reply.

You may well be right but use of the feature definition manager is currently outside my skill set.

I am due a 1 day training course in TBc but given current pandemic situation that may not happen for sometime....

    Hi Damien,

For your line control code CS and CE, would you take a snapshot as below so I can see what actions are they using?

    Hi Rui,

    Please see images below.

I have also been discussing this with our Trimble supplier here in Ireland they have come up with two solutions:

"We’ve been looking into this for you and have found a quick fix.

When carrying out your survey in the field, to stop the curve line from transitioning from or into a straight line, the fastest way is to simply record an observation on the point at the start of the curve (with no CS suffix) and then record a second point on top of that same point (with the CS Suffix).

The issue is that for extreme curves, TBC is trying to transition the linework smoothly.

The Break Line Function in the CAD Toolbar I mentioned in a previous email will work also."

This would mean recording multiple two points at each curve start, this issue i'm having isn't at every curve start just some...

    Curve EndCurve Start

    Hi Damien,

I see you're using the smooth curve method, but for now I cannot reproduce it on my end. Like you said, maybe this issue is not triggered every single time. We will keep an eye on it and hopefully be able to find a way to reproduce it and find the root cause.

    Hi Rui,

I've spoken to our supplier here in Ireland, they are aware of this issue and are also looking for a solution.

Maybe Trimble could contact them directly to see if it is occurring with many other users in their market.

Are you sure you don't have something going on that you've already started a curve from the example that you've shown? I have only recently started using my own FXL file and use BC and EC as begin and end of "smooth curve" and here's what I get using v5.21
