Any way in Siteworks to have stakeout points in layers?

  • 1.  Any way in Siteworks to have stakeout points in layers?

This is really eating me up. Is there any way in siteworks to turn point on and off within layers? Or does every point become a stakeout? Some of the bridge models we're working with have many points on top of each other. We really don't want to create different designs just to turn points on and off. For reference, we're using the feature code to know which point to pick. Am I going crazy or is there no way to do this?

No. Not yet but I will be glad when you can.

Have you tried passing Points for stakeout via VCL files - my guess is that they work the same way - they are extracted into a Point Stakeout List so probably no different - this is one for the SPS guys to comment on

Currently there is not a way to layer individual stakeout points. It would require a separate design, and associated CSV stakeout point file for each set of points you would like to stake.  As you found, if you want to keep everything in one design, then using the point codes to identify and ensure you are selecting the correct point to stake would be the suggested workflow.

VCL design handling in Siteworks also currently lump all points in the VCL file into point objects that are not differentiated onto layers either. This also would require separate VCL designs to differentiate between points.

This is something that we hope to address in the future, as improvements to the software are continually made based on feedback like this.

I cannot express my frustration.  There seems to be an opening for someone, anyone, Autodesk, or Joe S. to come in & say. you want Point Groups, Layers, double click functionality, keyboard shortcuts - DONE... Visual Lisp, .NET, VB - all yours.  You want to see contours rather than force fed an Isopach? No way, just kidding, of course.

I second Katie's suggestion for points having colors and also the original suggestion for points having layers.

I would love for this to be an option. Been waiting on it for years. I also wouldn't mind having the option to see points in different colours such as by layer or by feature code. Just makes for some real quick differentiation between points without having to have point names or feature codes clogging up your screen.

i would agree with this as well for Access. it is possible with survey pro, but it has to be done on the import of the points which is a little annoying because you have to often create multiple import files for each point layer(design, control....). it would be nice to be able to create a group of points by range or code... and then be able to turn them on/off/selectable or change color as suggested.
i guess it can be done with a dxf, but then the points are not actually points (only drawn) and need to always be selected on the map.

Any movement on this? Survey pro has had this forever and it extremely useful.

    HI All,

Dusting off this very old thread with some welcome news!

As of January 2025 with the release of Siteworks v1.75 we did add the capability to support multiple stakeout.csv files that are in the currently loaded design folder as layers.  Those will be put onto a "FileName" layer. So if you have "GradeLayout.csv" and "BuildingLayout.csv" stakeout files in your currently loaded design, the stakeout points will now show up in the layer manager as two new layers "GradeLayout" and "BuildingLayout".

Checkout Siteworks (relatively new:) online help portal for more info: https://help.fieldsystems.trimble.com/siteworks/en/stakeout-workflow.htm?Highlight=stakeout

While we're not always able to respond instantly, or as fast as anyone would like for that matter,  to all feature requests, I can assure you, we do see them and listen, and try to do our best to manage all the competing requests in our backlogs to the best our our abilities with the limited development resources that are available.  So keep posting and working through your dealer partners to provide feedback.

this is such great news.  I've been having to remove points from my Bridge design for WorksManager output.   NOW, will this work for Siteworks or only manual input?

    Hi Francisco,

WorksManager will still only allow the upload of one CSV file per design.  So if you wanted to get multiple CSVs up to your controllers, you would have to manually place the individual CSVs into the respective design folders through the upload command in WM via the file management abilities in the devices page of WM.
