How do I cleanup duplicate points

  • 1.  How do I cleanup duplicate points

I use "select" to "select duplicate points". i then need t o perform some kind of an edit, preferably more efficiently than editing/deleting point by point. "Project Cleanup" will remove duplicate lines but what about points?

Your approach should consider how many you have, why you have them and what you are going to do with the points.  Points with the same xyz can be used in a surface without a problem.  If they have different elevations the program will pick one and give you a flag for the other.  If there are a few you can decide which one to use and delete the other or at least remove it from the surface.

Selecting duplicate points will tell you how many you have.  The following commands can be used to find and fix them.

    Selectduplicatepoints

Selects points within a tolerance of each other.

    Mergepoints

Combines points within a tolerance into one.

    Pointsview

You can select the duplicate points and then sort by x or y and delete them by selecting the lines.

If you have lots of duplicate CAD points you should evaluate why and try to fix at the source.

On the view tab, within the spreadsheet group, click on points to run New points spreadsheet command.  You can also press F12 and type in pointsview.  Note that as you type the command name in all commands with that sequence of characters will be shown in the list.  This is an easy way to find a command.   I like to specify the command name that you type in, in case the user has edited their menus.
