Snap to surface in V5.00

  • 1.  Snap to surface in V5.00

In version 4.xx.xx I could enable a surface and when I was setting an elevation I could snap to a vertex of the surface while in plan view.

I used this to elevate street furniture (MH Cover Level/Gully Grates etc.)

I can't seem to get the same functionality on V5.00, is there an option I'm missing somewhere or has this feature been removed?

Not sure what specific tool you are referring to that you are using to create 3D Objects or to Elevate Objects - but the Snaps at the base of the screen in V5 has a Surface Vertex Snap Option that you may have turned off - if that is on when you have an Elevation Field - when the field is selected you can click on any Surface Vertex to create the Elevation Value.

I have tried Properties, Create Line, Create Point, Edit Line (Vertical) and they all work as expected

Let me know if it is as simple as the Snap not being enabled - if not please tell me tye command(s) that you are using that are not working this way

That's the one Alan, missed that on my little search.

The only other thing along the same vein, I can snap to the vertices now, however the near point used to work along the lines of the wireframe of the surface. Any small setting change to get that one working again aswell?

You can always use the Right Click and then select "From Surface" Snap and

then click on any triangle side to extract the elevation from the TIN Edge

Challenge with From Surface Snap is which surface to select when there are

several available - you have to select the surface as a part of that process

You can of course argue here that clicking on a TIN Edge could auto select

the surface and the location on the edge to extract the elevation etc.
