Ribbons Dropping with BC-HCE v4.1

I've had a customer complain that his ribbons have been "dropping" since he updated BC-HCE to v4.1. He was using a custom ribbon in BC-HCE that he had created some time ago using an older version of BC-HCE. His resolution was to remove the old custom ribbon and recreate another one from scratch. Anyone else seen this behaviour with BC-HCE v4.1?

    Hello Paul,

I have not heard of this issue.  It may take seeing the custom ribbon.  Also, the best support for ribbons would be to export as a BIN and re-import.  There is also 4.11 that is now available and may be worth testing.  Here are a few items that I know...let us know if they help.

I think these are best practice for ribbons:

    • To retain your custom ribbon from version to version, you need to export it (as a .bin file), and then import it after upgrading.
    • When you import the ribbon, it won't include any of the new commands or ribbon tabs, so you will need to manually add them.

Let me know if that helps at all.

    Thanks

    Scott

    Thanks, Scott.

Paul, here are a couple more things to note:

    • When you add new commands to your custom ribbon after upgrading, the icons for the new commands are not displayed; only the command names are shown. This is a known issue.
    • You can share ribbon layouts with colleagues simply by exporting and importing .bin files. Alan Sharp has created one example of an alternate ribbon for version 4,11, which is posted here:

Alternate Ribbon Layout for BC-HCE v4.11

    To use this ribbon layout:

    1. Download it.
    2. Right-click on your current ribbon and select Customize the Ribbon.
    3. In the dialog, click Import, and navigate to the downloaded .bin file.
