File Flipper and user defined coordinate system?

  • 1.  File Flipper and user defined coordinate system?

    Posted 07-25-2020 17:52

    Hi Guys,

I am sure someone has come across that one before, but I can't find the answer for it.

I have machine files for CB460 and I want to change them to Earthworks. I downloaded a File Flipper and it is almost all fine, as the file flipper does not see the user defined coordinate system form the current.csd file.

Is there a way it can see that or what should I do to make it work?

    Cheers

In v1.4.2 of the PC version of File Flipper, if you go to Settings and select Coordinate System Library, you can hit the + key next to the Coordinate System Database and browse to find the version of the CSD file that you want it to use (that may contain your custom coordinate system. Then when you are creating Designs, and you select that you want to use GPS, and then select Coordinate System Library - it will now show the contents of the selected CSD file not the default one.

The online version of file flipper is much simpler and doesnt have the ability to use the Coordinate System Library, and Works Manager is basically the same - they both expect you to have a Site Calibration file - which you can create from SCS900 / Siteworks / Access or you can use Trimble Business Center to create.

I hope that this answers the question

    Hi Alan,

I have a version 1.4.20200.1186 and yes you can add the additional coordinate system library, but it only accepts the *.xml files ,  See screenshot.

Is there a way that it would see the current.csd file in there? Or is there a way of converting the current.csd file to CoordinateSystemDatabase.xml file?

    Cheers

In the Coordinate System Manager you can use File - Export to export records from the CSD to a JXL (which is an XML file) - I have not tried that but I assume that is the XML file that File Flipper is looking for. There you can export all records or just the User Defined Records.

Let me know if that works for you

It appears that that does not work - at least not when the files have the .jxl Extension or if you change the extension to xml. I am asking the Trimble folks for the answer on this one.

If you have a .dc file you are using in the field, export the .dc and geoid from the data collector to TBC. Then export as a .JXL and you should be good to go. In file flipper when you get to coordinate system, select local, pick the .jxl and add your geoid. The Geoid must have the exact same name as the one imported from the data collector.

Not sure if this is what you needed but hopefully it helps.

    Hi Thomas,

I did not have a .dc file hovewer I have exported .jxl file for the custom coordinate system from Coordinate System Manager, and then I followed your steps. It did work, however I have no means to test it  (I do those files for remote sites). I just wonder if the site calibration is saved in site.V01.cal file? and is it only applicable to the project where it is saved in?

    Cheers

Pawel, the file structure is posted below. The .cal file only is loaded once for the project. When you have a new design it will be added to the Design folder. Much like the SCS file structure.

    Good Luck!
