Use Sphere in scan with TBC?

    Hi!

Is there a way to use spheres to georeferens pointclouds from a scanner in TBC? A sphere (i think) would give me a higher accuracy that it would be if i just would place it cloud to cloud.

    Hi Fredrik,

The TBC team has investigated adding in a target detection and registration routine for the past couple years and to this point has not added it to the product.

One of the reasons has been the automatic plane-based targetless registration serves our users quite well, so the need hasn't been critical.  Of course, target-based scanning workflows have their merits and purposes, as plane-based routines will not always work.

What is your application for the spherical target scanning workflows in TBC?  What hardware are you using?  We are always looking to learn more and adding the target-based registration/georef in TBC is always on the table.

    Thank you,

    Joe

    Hi!

I am using a SX10 and i have just ordered a X7. I want to be able to do the best registration that is possible and my thinking was that using spheres for georeferencing the data from the X7 must give me the best result i think. I know that i cant do a scan or 2 with my SX10 first and after that use the data from the SX10 for registration of the data from the X7 but will that give me the same accuracy? And i cant really control how good it is.

Lets say i want to to a scan on the ground with a manhole with SX10 and then continue the scans down in the manhole and a tunnel with the X7. There will not be much data in the hole for registration to get a correct placement and bearing, i think. I that case i think that a sphere will do the trick or am i wrong?
