Corrupted pointcloud files, any news?

    Hi!

I know there is issues with cloudbased services but we need to use them and it has been working for a while but now we are changing from dropbox to onedrive due to office365 and it is som rellay strange things here. Maybe Trimble has been doing some testing or someone else can help me?

As i wrote we are now changing from dropbox to onedrive (sharepoint) and are just moving the project folders. Every project we move cant be opened with the pointcloud because it says that the file is corrupted. If i move the project folder

Some other place in my computer it works fine but not when i move it to "Fredriks Marktjänst" wich is a local sharepoint connected to onedrive. i does not matter if i disconnect to the internet or just turn of the sync, its the same, the file gets corrupted. If i delete all database files and folders for the pointcloud in the project, open the project again and import the pointcloud again in the project i can save it and open it without any problem in the new spot on onedrive.

The problem with this is that all regions and surfaces wich are made from the pointclud now is gone. Is there anyway to just replace the databasefiles so we dont have to redo all pointclouds and surfaces in all projects?

    I also tried this:

Copy my project - deleted the database and pointcloud files - opened it and drag n drop the pointcloud - saved it and opened to see that it did work, it did - closed the project - copied all database and folders for pointcloud (that seem to work) - replaced the files in the original project with the files from the project that worked - started the project - It was the same error, corrupted files.......

Right now i have to take every project (200+) and delete the database files in the project, import the pointcloud again and save it in the new location, and also open the original project in the old location and export every surface as a ttm and import to the new project. any other idea would be really great.

    Any takers?

    Merry Christmas!

Have you tried suspending Sync to see if that solves the problem. The challenge with these file servers is that they are continually monitoring changes and trying to sync when they see a change and that is most likely what is causing the issues that you are seeing.

We do not test or validate TBC today at least working with Projects stored on any system other than TCC, Trimble Connect or ProjectWise from Bentley. In all those cases this process will work. While we would also like to work with Autodesk 360, Dropbox, Box.Com, One Drive, Google Drive, iCloud and more, the amount f testing and work required to support all of the options out there is prohibitive for us at this time.

I would suggest that you try out Trimble Connect to solve this problem of sharing across a team.

    Thanks for your answer Alan.

Yes, i have been stopping the sync and even never let it sync. Took my computer of the internet ant moved the folder to my onedrive on my computer and that was enough to get it corrupted, without any sync at all. Just by moving the folder.

I know that we had this discussion before and i was kind of hoping that maybe someone else had the same problem and maybe found some solution. I also know that Trimble says that we should be using trimble connect instead as a cloudservice but that does not work for us. If i am a little lucky i will find a way to use onedrive and if someone has a workflow that does work i hope they will tell me.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

(Going to Cap Verde over new year so i will probably work by the pool and write stuff in this forum )

    Fred

I will take a dig around on this in January to see if I can find a solution

You may have heard that I am leaving Trimble at end Jan and starting my new venture with Rockpile Solutions and some other people I have worked with over the years

Trimble is saying that they will give me a consulting contract to do the forum and some other consulting work as well as the PUG events globally - so I will still be involved - just on the outside as a private business - I hope to develop great add on tools for TBC users and also some new software products in parallel to the other things

This may be an area I can help in but I have to dig around some and right now I am buried with work

I am heading to St Lucia for the Christmas break and will be back Jan 13

Have a great break and I look forward to 2020 and working with you more

It has been fun getting to know you digitally this year

Yes, i heard that. I think that changes are good so this will be a good thing. Good luck at Rockpile!

I agree, it has been great getting to know you digitally to and hopefully we will meet in the future, maybe in Nashville 2020?

    Hej Frederik,

For One Drive and especially Point cloud folders I normally keep them always locally on device. Found out that when the option is off even the importing to TBC is problematic (timewise).

Yes, i know. We have been using dropbox for a couple of years now and it has been a real struggle sometimes. For example when we import a pointcloud from our SX10 and dont stop the sync in dropbox first we get a lot of ghostpoints and tje project is a disaster. If we stop the sync and then do import it works perfect.

In this case we think that is TBC 5.2 that is the problem. We noticed that the .LAS file no longer is in the project file like it was in the earlier TBC. So now when we copied EVERYTHING (10TB) from dropbox to onedrive (due to start using office 365) all new projects started in 5.2 with poinclouds does get corrupted when we try top open them. All projects created before 5.2 wich include tha .LAS file seems to be ok (so far). I am really happy we did this now and not a year from now.......

Maybe this info is useful for you to @Alan Sharp?

    Happy new year!
