Probably this is a code 60 error (the problem is 60cm from the screen) but i dont know how to fix it. 

I have a project using take off with a couple of AOI:s. I have also choosen a boundary för topsoil and a thikness. When doing the report i have checked "include remaining area" but this does not include the topsoil. I do only get the volume of topsoil wich is inside my AOI:s and not the remaining area or the total in a summary. If i compute the surface OG and OG with topsoil stripped i will get a lot bigger volume. Why? What am i missing here? Do i need to create a boundary wich is outside my total area every time to get the correct volumes for the entire project?

I've noticed in order for the project to calc anything outside of the AOIs there the has to be an AOI including it otherwise the takeoff report doesn't include a lot of data. Regardless of you checking Include Remaining Data.

From what I can see in both the Takeoff and Custom Takeoff Reports, the Topsoil Strip will report by AOI and as Erik states it does not report Remaining Area at all as far as I can tell - It will report the AOI Areas but not the Total strip. For example I created an OG Surface that covered the entire site, I then defined the AOIs for 2 Areas inside the site and there are gaps between them. When I report the Topsoil Strip using the AOIs I get the Topsoil quantities of AOI 1 and of AOI 2 but not the total Topsoil strip defined over the entire area. If I then add the OG boundary that I used to create the topsoil strip over the entire site as a third AOI I get the total of Soil Strip over the whole site in that AOI and I get the two parts in the other two AOIs - but that doubles up the quantities in the areas where the AOI Overlaps occur - You would need to subtract the AOI 1 and 2 from the full area AOI to get the remaining area Topsoil Strip quantities.

So based on this I dont know what the Report Remaining Area is doing in the case of Topsoil Strip as in my view it should be the Total Strip - AOI 1 - AOI 2 quantity.

I will report this in as a defect

In response to this if I remember correctly without and going and doing a report (no time) I think the include remaining area will only compute the total earthwork volumes. It won't include and subgrades, lengths, pnts, etc. Just Earthwork volumes. So you will be missing ALL that information.

I can run some tests to see the reality on that Erik - Leave it with me and I will report back.

Thanks for looking in to this Alan. Strange that no one has reported this before, i can say that this has been a problem for a long time but i just havent asking the question. I have done as i usually do, working around the problem.

Yeah me too. I just started add AOIs to the entire site and worked through it. I ran into it like a few years ago and just changed my workflow to include AOIs for everything. I really wish you could add AOIs with holes in the middle without it saying "Something about overlap" In the report. and it won't add up the earthwork volumes. I end up doing what AGTEK does and make a outside and inside boundary. break them at two places on each end then join them so it makes it one. Obviously not as big gap as below though.
