XYZ to LAS?

    Hi!

Is there a easy way to convert a XYZ file to .LAS format? I tried to import a 20MB XYZ (1 millin points) to TBC but that does not work.....;)

If the imported file has the extension .PTS it will automatically be created as a point Cloud as opposed to CAD POINTS (1000000 CAD Points is painful).

It will import the CAD Points but it will take it a long time - just change the file extension and the data order is E N Z comma separated - provided you can get the data like that it can be imported as a point cloud.

Once imported to TBC as a Point Cloud it can be exported as a Point Cloud format.

Great!! But how do i change the extension to .PTS? I tried to name the file test.PTS instead of test.XYZ but i just went test.PST.XYZ.

Is there a converter or another way to change it?

I just do it in File Explorer - you can also do it saving from eg Notepad.

You have to backspace over the .xyz and replace it with PTS

Strange, it still keeps the first filetype.

Fred - this is all I am doing in Windows File Explorer - this may be a Windows or File association thing - I am not sure

Good to hear - out of interest what was stopping you from renaming files?

    I dont really know actually.

When i just tried to rename the file as i showed you it did not work but when i did like this. it worked:

Import to excel and saved it as a .csv

Closed and opened the file with notes

Choosed "save as" end shifted from ".txt" to "all files" in format an put the .pts in the file name.

    Then i worked.

There is a setting in Windows explorer that prevents someone from unknowingly changing a files extension (very frustrating for someone who doesn't understand). That's probably what is happening.
