A-cad .dwg import workflow?

Here is a dwg Dropbox - M-57-P-0002.dwg - Simplify your life how is the best way to handle it assuming i dont have Autocad?

I tried to import it direct to TBC, did now worked well after exploding. And then i did the same in Draftsight, kind of same problem there.

So, is there anyway i can use this file without having to call the company that delivered it?

I recommend that everyone has DWG TrueView from Autodesk. That way they can check all DWG and DXF files that they receive and can compare what TBC decodes with what Trueview shows. If the two are different then you have choices

    1) Go back to the source and ask them to Explode and set the Proxy setting to 1 and resave the DWG file and resend it or

    2) Buy a copy of AutoCAD so that you can do it yourself

While we try to solve issues at our end, we cannot keep up with the many variants that Autodesk throw at us every year and the variations on the same result that they can create from the same data set. You can try to educate your data suppliers to change their setups and export procedures to better meet market needs, and if they will do that then awesome job. If they will not do that, we have no access to change some of the settings in a DWG file during import to make it work better and actually some of those settings in AutoCAD result in changing what is stored in the DWG file - so no chance without AutoCAD.

While I hate to say this, it is the reality of a data format that used to be a good standard but has become so convoluted and problematic over the past few years, to the point where Autodesk themselves don't like their own format files files that are authored by anyone else (they warn you on import of their own "industry standard" file types that they were not authored in Autodesk products) - which is a good sign that the "Industry Standard Days" have passed.

Having said that - I downloaded the file and opened it - not sure if the file you posted was the original or your exploded version - it imported into TBC OK and I am not sure that I can tell what was wrong with it - or are you saying that the original file just would not open at all (if that is the case please share it and I will try to find out why we could not at least open it
