The problem with the surface disappearing is typically caused by your
Project having data miles away from the place that you are working - either
you have data at one elevation and you have something miles away vertically
that is visible (like 0 elevation data or in some cases a large negative
elevation data of some kind that came in from a CAD file - I have seen
points with millions in the negative - and it can be a block reference or
something that causes this, or you have data in one position and have some
strange data miles away at 0,0 or again a large negative coordinate or
something like that. When this happens, the graphics Engine has to scale to
accommodate the large coordinate range and in some cases it runs out of
precision because of the scale of the data it is working with and as a
result it cuts off the display of the surfaces and other data at an earlier
point than it should.
You can try the following
1) In View Filter at the bottom, select Display Options and then set the
display of 2D Information to "Do Not Display in 3D" to see if it is
Elevation based problem relating to 0 Elevation data
2) You can use the ALL View Filter and Zoom Extents in the plan view to see
if you have any visible data in a different location to the project data -
if you do - you should probably delete it or move it closer to your project
3) You can use Advanced Select to find all data types with Elevations less
than zero to see if it picks up any strange large negative value data
4) You can use Advanced Select to find all data types that have a
coordinate value (N or E) less than zero to see if you have anything
strange there
If none of these work send me the project file (alan_sharp@trimble.com) and
I will take a look - I see this pretty often and I am pretty sure that it
will be this issue.
