Slow Selection in Windows 10 + Dissappearing Points

Our Windows 10 machines seem to have a delay when selecting point cloud points unless all but one region is off. Does anyone have a fix to this, or has anyone seen this problem before?

Similarly we just bought a new machine to handle all of this point cloud data and there seems to be an issue with regions disappearing ( whole buildings will be gone) and the only way to get them back is to use the "get unused points" on the default layer under the project explorer. any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Brad

    Brad,

I sent your inquiry to the development and test teams to see if they have any ideas for you. They may request a sample project that shows the problem. I'll let you know.

    Hi Brad,
The response from the dev team was that the point cloud selection problem you are seeing is a known, but complex, issue that is being worked on. Unfortunately, a fix is not imminent. As for missing point cloud data, we would need more context, such as what point cloud operations you were performing. If you used the "Keep in" or "keep out" commands, it's not uncommon for points to become hidden. In that sense, using "Get unused points" is a valid way of making point cloud data visible again.

That’s great to hear that they are working on the slow selection problem.

    As for the disappearing points, it was not me, but one of our designers, so I don’t know everything that was happening. The things that I do know;

    1. we are working with a large scan file (50+ scans)

    2. he was using the “keep in” “keep out” “add to region” buttons. When he realized a couple of buildings that he had classified an hour or two before was missing he tried using the “restore all” button to no avail

    3. Using the “get unused points” command did work, but it pulls them in on the default layer, which means that you have to reclassify these points and waste a lot of time.

    4. The designer believes that this might have happened during the saving process.

We just started another scan project, so I am keeping close eyes on this project to see when this happens. We have ruled out, in this one project at least, when the scan is brought in and when the “classify regions” command is used. I will keep you updated when/if this happens again.

    Thank you for your help!

Hello, I have a similar problem.
Working on the cloud, depending on the magnification, results in the loss of some areas.
Exactly at high magnification, the cloud points disappear
Graphics card settings do not give anything.
I have 128 GB RAM and a GB video card.
