Enhancement request; More than one profile in profile view

  • 1.  Enhancement request; More than one profile in profile view

    Posted 12-05-2018 07:58

Is this possible in TBC v5.00? Otherwise a great enhancement I would say.

I can only find that you could create multiple profiles to one horisontal alignment and see those in the profile view and also add surfaces but not other verical alignments and/or 3D linework.

One example is when working with a trench with multiple pipes at different heights and slopes I would like to see all the linework/alignments in one profile view for QA/QC and be able to change heights to see what result I get in the terms of new slopes.#enhancementrequest

I agree!  I would like to draw MSE wall quantities in Profile View using surveyed shots on the top of bottom of wall.  I liked how Terramodel handled it - profile view was based on the 'active alignment' so you could build multiple lines in profile view if they matched the stationing of the active alignment.

    Copy to profile command?

Not sure that Copy to Profile command will work Erik because it is 1:1 in the stationing of the profile, it is not matched up with the stationing of a "Master Alignment"

Let me goof around on this one a bit and see if there is an answer to this

You mean something like this ....

This would be serious Beer to get access to this crown jewel ....

There is a command in BC-HCE 4.12 that appears to have been suppressed in v5.0 (we will re enable it). It is one of those hidden commands called CreateProfileProxy (Type it in at the command pane). It basically projects the selected linework onto the alignment selected and shows the lines in the profile View of the alignment.

The Dev Team use this command for debugging problems, It is not full tested or even fully plumbed in to all aspects of the software, but it is there if you want to try it out.

Let me know what tools you would want to work with this and I will see what we can do

How much beer for a complete list of all the hidden commands?  Do you have a forklift on site to offload the truck?

    HaHa

I actually dont have the list - I encounter these when people ask questions

mostly and I have asked for the "complete list" but noone can give that to

me (or is prepared to do that).

Hidden commands are Hidden for a reason - they are not released and are not

fully tested if they are in that state. I am sharing because I know that

this type of thing can be helpful in certain scenarios and at least they

work to a basic level. They do however remain untested and unvalidates so

you should use them sparingly and "at your own risk"

Yes @Alan Sharp something like that but a little bit different, let me explain. In present TBC in profile view you can right click and choose which surfaces you want to show I would like to be able to have this option for other profiles (vertical alignments,3D linework and/or pipes and structures) and all other types of data. In that way you get a better overview of the different design elements and how they interact.

And I would also want be able to scroll through the different profiles to make the one you choose active, so if you choose alignment A that one gets active and if I then choose alignment B that one gets active and alignment A becomes passive.

And another question / #enhancementrequest is there a way to measure distance and slope in the profile view, I'll give you an example.

You have manhole A at an elevation of let's say +38.00, manhole B 20m further upstream at +38.04 and manhole C another 20m upstream at +39.00.

As you could calculate I have a very poor slope between manhole A and B (2 per mille). So what would the slope be from A to C? (You might want to suggest an alternative for your client)

And if the slope is between A and B what would the new elevation be at manhole B?

I would like to make a "helpline/temporary baseline" in the TBC profile view from A to C that will show length, slope length and the slope and from that baseline snap to manhole B to see the distance along the baseline (2D and 3D) and the elevation difference.

Can TBC make this scenario happen?

But for now I will try out your hidden gem @Alan Sharp and the beers are on me when you decide to come to Sweden, deal?

When you measure in the Profile View it gives you the From Point, the To Point the Delta Station, The Delta Elevation the Slope % and the Horizontal Distance

Currently Line Labels and Label Tables cannot be used in the Profile View - I am not clear why we have that limitation and that should be addressable I guess.

You can already draw in the profile View - but not label the line automatically

You can however copy Measure data from the Measure dialog into a Text field and place the Text in the Profile View.

You can use Object Smart Text to Label Line Length in the profile View but not Ground and slope length and there is no smart text for Line Segment Slope

Agree that these would be useful (some of the above is possible through the Plotting Profiles but not in the drawing and annotation of Profiles in Profile View that could then be Dynaviewed onto Sheets of course.

I for sure don't disagree on your wish to draw Pipes and Manholes and other objects in the profile View - I agree that that would be useful (same in Cross Sections)

First off thanks Alan for taking the time to answer this question but I don’t think I’m clear enough of what I’m asking/trying to describe.

In this case I’m not out to label lines and so on but more having a command that can give a quick control of a nodes position relative a temporary baseline between two other nodes.

I could send you an example tomorrow that will better explain this.
