v5.30 Issues with 4K displays and Corridor Interface

  • 1.  v5.30 Issues with 4K displays and Corridor Interface

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post about an issue I've discovered in the latest TBC update. Feel free to move it if it needs to be moved.

I updated to TBC v5.30 today, and I use a set of 4K monitors as well as a laptop workstation. I've been creating a corridor for one of our project for the past few days, and have noticed some unexpected behavior within the "Edit Corridor Template" panel. I did not experience these issues with previous TBC versions. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, I've repaired, and I've used the Trimble Cleanup application, but still experience the same issue.

While using TBC on my 4K displays, the GUI (drop-down menu, text boxes, check marks, etc) within the Edit Corridor Template command do not update or behave 'actively' (drop-down menu opens, but the options don't highlight when hovered over; text boxes act frozen with no blinking text bar or blue highlighting, although they do apparently still receive input, though I can't see what I've typed in them; check boxes don't update when clicked, etc.). These issues act as effective blinders, because I can still modify my corridor templates, I just can't see any of the changes that I make to the user input fields.

When I lower my monitor resolution, these problems go away (the highest resolution that I can successfully set my monitor to is 2560 x 1600). The issues are also not present when I have TBC displayed on my built-in laptop monitor. I have not seen any other obvious issues related to these ones; I can pan around my project, objects (including the corridor I'm editing) update when I make changes, and buttons highlight as expected when I hover over them. The only command that I've seen this issue with is Edit Corridor Template.

I'm using a very capable workstation which has all of the latest BIOS, drivers, updates, etc.

I have the same issue in 4K. I changed the res to 1920x1080 did what I needed and then changed it back. Annoying.

Weird - I run 3 4K Monitors and just restarted this am and ran Corridor Template Editor no problem at all

I run mine at 150% on an External Monitor and 200% on my Laptop 17' monitor. I set my External Monitor Right Side to my main display (used to use my Laptop as main display but find that the 4K Resolution on my large Monitor has a positive effect when running the full 3 Screen approach as that drives the scaling of the graphics on all monitors in TBC.

Could someone screen video to share with us - we will need to see which monitor settings you have for each monitor, which monitor is your main monitor, and then show us what is happening in TBC that is the problem.

Try changing your best monitor to be the Main Monitor and use that to scale the other monitors.

Development now have more details from Shea and are looking into it

    It is just one monitor.

The offset does not blink and cannot be moved. Basically it all just sits there. W10 Home. Nvidia GTX 1070 Samsung 28" 4K. I can change the drop down but everything else is untouchable.

This issue has been propagated into v5.32, and appears to have been worsened as some other commands are affected in a similar way.

If I move the affected panels onto my standard-res laptop display, the panels function properly (though I did recently experience the issue on my main laptop display as well, though I could update the UI by clicking out of the program and back into it - this isn't typical though). If I keep the affected panels on my high-res displays, they do not update. The display shows that drop-downs don't work, text boxes don't activate, check boxes don't change; even though the computer recognizes each of these things happening.

Again, all of my software and drivers are up to date.

I use two Philips 276E displays. One is connected directly to my laptop via HDMI 2.0, the other is connected to a dock via Displayport 1.2, which is connected to my laptop via dual USB-C cables. It doesn't seem like it'd be a driver or hardware issue, as this problem doesn't occur with most other TBC commands.

You can try setting one of your external 4K Monitors as the Main Display - this then uses that monitor to scale the size of Pixels on all screens that are attached. This can give you a better behavior in my experience.

I also find that after a sleep shutdown and restart I sometimes have to reboot my PC to get things to work right if I left TBC open and running on Sleep - as Windows still does not fully restore things all the time correctly.

Not saying that there is no issue here, but it is not with every PC and every installation for sure - which indicates it is partly a local hardware / system issue or at least the way that local system interacts with TBC.

If the problem persists you will need to open a Support Ticket with your SITECH and have them work it for you with Trimble Support - you have tried the things that I can suggest, and I am not able to troubleshoot System or Hardware Issues beyond the suggestions that I have made previously here.

Trimble Support team have some experience of troubleshooting these issues, and they are linked into the development team and can work with development to get you some resolution to this
