What is the best 3d pdf viewer for working with construction plan sets?

I've used Nitro which is handy for footnoting things but it doesn't do 3d.

I think Adobe Viewer is the best option. 3D PDFs are a newer technology and there are not many options and still some bugs, but it doesn't work too bad.

I think most people use Acrobat Reader or Bluebeam these days. Bluebeam is of course a licensed product but it does allow you to navigate a set of plans quickly and split them up into parts etc. as well as do some 2D Takeoff types stuff as well. I have also looked at Soda PDF as that has some benefits also.

    Alan,

OK I'm giving BlueBeam a try but it can't seem to open a 3d pdf that TBC creates. What is the magic that will let BB open up a 3d pdf that TBC creates?  I get the following error and a blank screen.

    Error:

PRC format is not fully supported. PRC encoded 3D PDF files are limited to opening and viewing, and some model objects may not appear as originally intended.

I have never been able to get Bluebeam to open a 3D pdf.  The free Adobe reader will do it with no problem, it just  sometimes takes a little while to open.

I apologize - I missed the 3D in your question.

I dont know a good reader other than Acrobat for that. Bluebeam has issues

with 3D PDF Files as reported some PRC error - I asked our developers to

comment on that and have had no response - however since Acrobat Works and

Bluebeam doesnt I would say that it is a Bluebeam Question more than a

Trimble question - I cannot comment on what they can / cannot do.

I do not personally use the 3D PDF functions much, and to be honest I think

this is the first question I have had on the subject in >2 years on the CEC

side of things. The Geospatial Team created that function as a deliverable

and they test in Acrobat and Acrobat Reader etc. as far as I know as that

    is the "Defacto Standard"

Maybe some users on the Geospatial Forum could throw some light on your

    question?
