I've got a scanned road surface from which I want to derive a profile/vertical alignment so I can verify slopes and K-values along the road. I know I can elevate a linestring to the scanned surface and turn it into an alignment with vertical characteristics, but the vertical alignment is created with "grade breaks" at each node and not actual curves with the corresponding characteristics (length of curve, K Value, slope, etc). 

If there is no way to do this in TBC, what would be your recommended workflow? 

I have a prototype tool that I would be happy for you to try out that does this from selected Point Locations - it doesnt fit Vertical Curves (Only Vertical Arcs) and it does it to a tolerance setup that you define.

First however I suggest that you send me the points from the scanned data that fall near the Center Line that you want to create (you can do a Polygon Select and create a Point Cloud Region e.g. +- 1 or 2 feet from the actual Centerline. I will run the tool over the data to generate you a best fit alignment that you can look at and let me know what you think. If that works or gets close to what you want we can look at a trial of the prototype tool with you for sure.

Create the Point Cloud Region and if you have a HAL already for the Road send me that all in a VCE File / VCL file and I will take a look at it for you (alan_sharp@trimble.com)

I am curious if there is any way you would help me do something similar for a project I am working on. I need to recreate a roads profile geometry from data that I have collected along the alignment. My final result will allow me to regrade this roadway back to its original shape after it has been reclaimed.
