I get the following error message when trying to import the attached CAD file into TBC and I am not sure what the error code is referring too. I have the latest patch installed.

What I know about the CAD File:

    • It was not created with an Autocad product (this is the message I get when I open in Civil3D)
      • I am not sure what program the dwg is from
    • It seems to open just fine in Civil3D
    • I have tried both the Raw dwg and exporting out of Civil3D as a dxf, same error message with both file types
    • the proxygraphics are set to 1
    • The file opens correctly in TBC 4.12

    Thank you!

I imported the file into TBC4.12 and tried exporting as DWG and DXF an importing into TBC5.0( with patch) and that did not work either. This workflow will work when exporting as a VCL and reimporting into TBC 5.0 but this was not my first go to because I wanted to apply a prefix to the layers on import.

VCL import needs the option to apply prefixes to layers on import.

I get the same message and I also have the patch applied. FWIW I use Bricscad as my CAD program. Remembering a CAD command Alan recently used when zoom extents was going to near infinity I selected all and used W (WBLOCK) and saved the selected entities in a new file called "new block.dwg". This file will import into v5 now. I'm not a AutoCAD person so I do not know what the commands is doing. It might work for you though.

I think there is a bigger issue where it was working in TBC4.12 and it is not working in TBC5.0, and won't even work with an export from TBC 4.12, but I will keep that it mind . The wblock command is definitely useful for getting rid of reference that are way the heck out there in CAD space.  Thanks for the tip.

I had the same issue in 5.0 but haven't tried since the patch. The entity through process of elimination was found to be a splined leader line. Once deleted import was fine. If you start in 4.12 and work around, the same problem will occur when you try to export from 5.0 to .dxf.

    Hope this helps,

    Tom

I will look for this in the file. Thanks for the advice Tom.

Patrick: downloaded the file and dragged into a new Project. It opened (slowly) with 0 errors and 6 warnings. Mine is TBC 5 with the latest patch.

In TBC 4.12 it opened (much more quickly) and with 0 errors and only 2 warnings.

I exported from 4.12 as both a 2013 and 2018 DWG. Then dragged them back into a new project in V5. Both opened very slowly and both times TBC coughed up 34 errors and 0 warnings.

Sorry, that doesn't help much but it did open in both 4.12 and V5 versions. Odd that TBC 5 was very slow (more than a minute) and 4.12 was very quick. Also the difference in errors and warnings is strange.

Thanks for checking this out. There is definitely something odd with the file.

    Patrick,

I have submitted your file to the dev team for debugging. I'll let you know what they find. Thanks for your input, @George Henry-Schneider, @Tom Maurello, and @Marshall Cant.

    Hi Patrick,

I just got this reply from the TBC test team"

"I am not able to reproduce this error... I have tried [three earlier TBC versions] and all of them imported provided [the] dwg file successfully."

I am sorry we couldn't you diagnose the problem in this case.

    David,

Thank you for investigating this. I just tried it again once with my custom TBC template and once with one of the TBC template and I received the same error message still. I do have a work around if it happens again but it is quite odd. I will make sure to keep notes if it happens again too.
