Million Dollar Question - How do I share files to non-TBCers?

  • 1.  Million Dollar Question - How do I share files to non-TBCers?

    Posted 08-16-2019 05:59

I am working on a project with a mix group of engineers, architects, consultants. I have used a combination of fancy tools such as point clouds, sidelopes and other tricks. I want to share this. How do I successfully do this with out spending hours "dumbing" stuff down. And before you say it Alan, I am not going to sell them a TBC license.

    Two hot topics

    1. I just want to be able to send this view and have them be able to see it. Similar to the niffty web viewer that Pix4D has. Simple measurements. This would be kick butt.  Maybe a #enhancementrequest. Maybe a view only option that doesn't require the user to have an account because everyone has enough superfluous accounts these days.
    2. What is the best why to share this data for them to use? No idea what they maybe using nor do I care. I just want to make sure they can use the data.
      1. I know LandXML is supposed to be the preferred way but it is kind of ancient based on prior conversations
      2. IFC is supposed to be the "update" to LandXML but ti appears to support earth construction yet and who knows when that will come.
      3. Again, I don't want to send hours "dumbing" stuff down. The hard work should be designing, not sharing/providing.

    Any support for .obj?

The TBC Core Free Viewer does exactly this - send them a VCE File with Predefined Views setup (Defined Views) and they can open the file and view the data without a license.

Failing that we have Connect - but that means exporting data and them knowing how to open files etc. - Connect Desktop also works.

Our Vianova Team also have a Viewer Portal called Easy Access - that would be a good tool to use but alas it is not connected to TBC or TBC Data.... yet ....

I am intrigued by the Easy Access portal and would be curious to check it out.

What about using the data in their respective programs? Is there go to file types outside of dxf or dwg? I'm still hoping for a universal file to share. Crossing my fingers on IFC

Easy answer @PATRICK L'HEUREUX.  Send them a raster PDF document with most of the details and make them redo it

Part of me wants to but on Design-Build projects this is very counter effective.

Just do like everyone else does...put it all on layer 0, write it all into one big nested block, shift it 5,555 ft to the north and 3,283 m to the west, set elevation equal to 1215698.325 international inches, and write it all out to a Release12 .dxf file.
