Command/TML Request - Elevate Profiles

  • 1.  Command/TML Request - Elevate Profiles

There is a trick to elevate profiles using the planar surface and change elevation tool but I think this is a process that warrants a dedicated command or TML especially when dealing with a lot of profiles; alignments, retaining walls, utilities.

Why don't you use copy to Profile and then use Scale and Move to get it to the correct Station and Elevation and scale - then you can add it to an Alignment as a Profile and then use the new HAL / VAL to create your wall?

I get what you are trying to do I think

You have a line for the wall alignment

You have a Profile for the Wall as a 2D CAD drawing with Grids (Station and Elevation)

You want to turn the 2D line for the Wall into a 3D line for the wall through this process

This is a very similar process as we use for converting Sections to Stored Sections today right but just for profiles.

    1. This trick only works if you model the wall as a corridor/alignment.
      1. Thanks to the new side slope tool I have found myself using the side slope tool more for walls:
        1. Quick
        2. You have linework you can snap to
        3. Linework you can send to the field
      2. The corridor work for walls but they can be clunkly to setup and truthfully I would probably only do this for large walls now. Small walls that tend to move or are subject to change, I would rather use the create side slope
    2. Your trick works but it would be nice is there was a TML that cut down on some of the steps. Yes it is doable but like you mention you have to copy, then you are light years away from the profile because the profile alignment data is at 0,0 and the new copied linework is at the projects coordinates and then you have to scale. I feel like a TML could merge all of this separate steps and make it that much more user friendly. Very doable and it works but it can be a slow process especially if you have a lot of alignments you are elevating because the data didn't come through as LandXML or you just got pdfs. I have used this before and it works well. I feel like there is a small bug that I am forgetting I will try this out later this week.

I'll report back when I get a chance to fuss with some.

You can still use an Alignment in the Sideslope command

For sure TMLs can do anything if you have the time to write them all
