Feature Request - Layer Descriptions in Layer Manager

  • 1.  Feature Request - Layer Descriptions in Layer Manager

I just learned this morning that Civil 3D has a field in the layer manager for layer descriptions. These are sometimes way more useful than the engineers nomenclature in the layer name. Is this something TBC could support?

Having this show up when using the standardize tool would be very beneficial.

I think by default the description defaults to the layer name but it looks like the user can override it. This could definitely be useful in data prep and cleaning up linework.

    Thank You!

I investigated a few different drawings this morning from various engineering firms and found that in all of the files the layer description was being used.

I totally agree with you @Pat L'Heureux. This is one enhancement request that I’ve been hoping to been added into TBC for a long time. Because usually cad layering name standards is a hard riddle to solve but with a field for description would take the guesswork out of the equation hopefully.

    Great request!

I think this same approach could be applied to Sideslope Template Instructions, Corridor Template Instructions, Surface Models and more - a Notes / Descriptions capability that allows you to annotate your project with why you did something or where you did something etc.

Goes in the category with Prefixing and Suffixing things like PDF Pages and Imported CAD files and more

I have this on the list

That would be great. I would just make sure the Siteworks team supports the description for layer as well otherwise there may be potential to miss stuff, similar to what is happening when a TBC user receives a file from Civil3D.

I see this as a valuable tool for communication between the office and field.
