Feature Enhancement - Dynaview Snaps in plan set mode

Is there a way to snap to end points of dynaviews? If not #feature_enhancement please. This would help with drafting and cleaning up plan sets.

Dynaviews are like Images and Text -- they only have an Insertion point so you should be able to select that, but the Other corners are all computed based on the size of the Dynaview

Question - why do you rotate the Dynaviews in The Sheet View and not apply the rotation in the Plan View when you create them?

I define my Dynaview Box Sizes in my Sheet Names so I know exactly how much space I have to work with on my sheet, and then I rotate the Dynaview to best fit my data in Plan View, and then it is automatically rotated into my Sheet with title box as I place the Dynaview on the sheets (manually or automatically - I tend to use Dynaview Collections for everything rather than the Create Dynaview from a Box or Polygon - unless I am doing an Inset on a drawing and then I will draw a Shape (a circle or a polygon for the Dynaview Frame and then use that as needed on my Sheet

Interested to hear why you are rotating after the fact - that seems like hard work to me ...

Haha it is. The create dynaview and apply rotation was something I picked up from one of the training videos I watched. It works but it is slower.

The dynaview collection and plan sheet grid seems a lot easier and automates what I am doing manually with the rotation. Truthfully did not know there was an easier way until you said something and then did some research on your drafting webinar blog.

There should be. I just listened to it on my phone.

Sorry my PC screwed up (I never do ....)

I just looked at this - you are right - Insertion Point is not getting picked up, however I tried right Click and End Point and it picks up all the corners of the Dynaview on the Sheet - so it looks like End Point and other Snaps should work, however for some reason on Dynaviews they are disabled - I will get that looked at.

Back to your video now ...

For Regular Shapes I would always do a Dynaview Collection.I would also make a Note of the Max Width / Height of the Drawing Area on your Sheet in Inches in the name of the Sheets in my Plan Set Template - that way I know the Max Area that I have available regardless of scale -that way as I am placing the Collection - even if only a 1x1 Collection I can see the space of the Sheet as I draw the Box in the Plan View - I can then always go less than the Max Space at a smaller scale etc. and I can change the Scale or the Width or Height Parameters and then the Rotation while dropping the Box in the Plan View - then when I place it - the default when you use "Build Sheets" (this places the DV Collection on the Sheet for you automatically and takes care of the Rotations.

What you are doing is fine for some types of work - if you want an irregular shaped polygon that is also fine, and then you place it in the Sheet View and use Properties or Move, Rotate etc in Sheet view till you get it in the right place and adjust the scale to make it fit as you want it. I noticed that the Rotation field is not allowing you to select a single line direction for your orientation - to me that is not as good as it should be - I should not have to do a three point etc to get the dynaview rotated - what;s more there should be Grips on a Dynaview that allow it to be Moved, Scaled and Rotated  on the sheet easily - while that is not as simple as it is on an image because the Dynaview can have a Rotation already incorporated - and a Dynaview may not be a regular shape - so Scaling and Rotating is not so simple - but AutoCAD just makes a Rectangle that covers the Min Max coord range of the Polygon and allows you to manipulate that - so we should be able to do at least that also.

Here is a quick Video of how I do this same thing

    Pat

Having tested this some more - the Dynaview corners are getting snapped to - we just arent displaying the Visual Snaps on the Dynaview for some reason - we are looking at that - but you can snap to all 4 corners of a Rectangular Dynaview at least.

Just tested that by turning off all of the snaps except the end points and saw the same thing. Thanks for looking into this.

So we have added Move, Rotate and Scale controls to a Dynaview using Grips in v5.1 so this will be sooooo much easier in a few weeks time. (Similar controls to those on an image that you place.

    Hi Alan,

I've tested those Dynaview grips in 5.1. Either I'm doing something wrong or the one for rotating doesn't act as it should.

For starters, should'nt the little triangle also be on one of the Dynview corners, or at least 90 degrees to the scaling grip?

But anyway, while dragging that triangle around the angle between the line to the triangle and the dynaview frame is changing and in some cases, if close to the COR, it starts "jumping around".

Doesn't matter if I have any snaps enabled or not.
