Is there a way to explode solids?

  • 1.  Is there a way to explode solids?

    Posted 05-09-2019 04:02

I ran into an issue yesterday where one of my layout foreman was missing striping data. It was because the arrows were solids from Civil3D. In TBC there is no way of exploding these. What is the best way of handling solids without recreating everything from scratch?

Can we get a way of exploding solids in TBC? #enhancementrequest

Can you send me the file so I can take a look at it - you may be able to generate points on the nodes of the Solids like you can with IFC files - I will let you know.

I need a file to test with if we are going to try and support that

    Not promising anything here

    Alan,

Please see the attached. The solids are on a layer called p-striping. They are the arrows. I traced the solids with a linestring to generate linework for the field.

How often are you seeing CAD Solids in DWGs - we rarely see them at all

Pretty often. I would say almost every other project. I will go through some old projects and see if I find a trend. I will also send over examples of what I find.

I just went through 8 projects and there were solids in 6 of the projects. From what I am seeing they seem to be common with utilities and text. The files I am sending your were created with Civil3D. I will email you a Dropbox link.

    Thank you,

If you use the Convert Linestring Command on the Solids that works

Not an obvious choice of commands - but useful when you know it works

Just use the "ConvertToLinestring" macro. "Advanced Select", select by object type and run macro.

Have you updated this to do this or has this always done it

Thank you Gary. I did not realize this.

I did find a bug with this command. Looks like it occurs with CAD ellipse.
