Vertical Design - Bug? - Instructions don't Move with Linework

  • 1.  Vertical Design - Bug? - Instructions don't Move with Linework

I have some  building foundation linework that I moved that was part of a vertical design. I could not for the life of me figure out how to move the associated instructions as well, as a group that is.

Is it possible? If not please add. Or add the ability to rotate plan view (this would be even better). I use this trick all the time when prepping building foundations that are not North-South orientated.

I had to make sure everything was 100%, I turned off the auto rebuild and moved all of the linework into place. This works but defeats the purpose of using the vertical design tool. I could have used a copy and move which would have allowed me to keep the original linework tied to the vertical design in case of changes. This is probably the route I will go next time until further updates have been made.

Vertical Designs don't update when you modify the parent linestrings.  If you rebuild it, it should work.  I'm not sure about a limitation if the lines are transformed in any particular way, but all lines would have to be moved together and the Rules should hold.

Just double checked and it doesn't appear to work even after a rebuild.

Even though the vertical design instruction are tied to linestring they also have coordinates for their start stop or source target lines. I think the move command needs to be updated to recognize these objects.

    I agree 100%.  I want it to show a station/distance-along a line instead of start/end coordinates.

Vertical Design Rules were designed to use coordinates independent of the lines.  With the tolerance this allows the user to make minor adjustments to the lines as well as add and remove lines from the design and the rules will find the lines and update the design.  Tying to a station of a line ties it to a line that might get broken, edited or otherwise changed that would break the rule.  Typically only the centerline of a corridor has the desired stationing as the offset lines have different lengths and may be in segments.

The initial design is to not allow them to be moved as they depend on specific selected lines and the relative position of the rules.  You can however adjust them one at a time using grips.  If you select a slope rule that goes from one line to another you can pick the center grip and the rule will slide along between the two lines.

As always we are open to improving how the product works but the changes must work with the primary workflow being addressed.  We welcome more discussion on these tools and how people want to use them.  There are sure to be many enhancements and fixes we can do.
