Feature Request - Break a Line - Auto Advance

Please consider adding an auto advance toggle to the break a line command. This would help speed up the process when breaking a lot of lines in a row.

The addition to this to the join command has been largely helpful.

    Thanks for considering!

Would be nice in the Remove Segment tool also.

Would it be possible to use the "Clip Line" command?

  • 4.  Re: Feature Request - Break a Line - Auto Advance

You could but sometimes by the time you grab all of the lines you want to break and then the crossing lines, it would be faster just to break them with the break a line command.

Both methods you have to touch each line but the break a line command gives you more reassurance that the results are correct because you are seeing it instantaneously.

The one thing that saves me from this really bothering me is the "TAB" button I programmed on my mouse. If only the my ESC button would act the way it used to in ver3.5 and always exit from commands that'd be great. Seemed like 'stacked' commands (multiple tools open at the same time, on top of each other w/ tabs on bottom of the properties dialog box) like in previous versions worked a lot better, you notice that @PATRICK L'HEUREUX ?

I agree with the esc key. Sometimes it works great and sometimes it appears to do nothing. I just did a quick test and some common commands seem to work well but there are a few, such as the create vertical design, that do not respond. Maybe it is worth a list of commands that do not respond to the esc key.

I have a tab shortcut setup too but honestly I run about 4 programs simultaneously and keeping track of all of the shortcuts and nuisance sometimes is like learning a new language for each program.

Also, trying to keep in mind if touch screens are ever supported, which they should be. #enhancementrequest

I know what you mean about keeping track of all programs quick keys. Do you ever have problems with right click only showing "float view" instead of normal recent commands? That seems to only happen when other commands are open, I wonder if their connected at all?

I absolutely cannot stand this! It took me ages to figure out I had to close all my commands to make float view disappear.

I use the create point tool a lot and that desperately needs an auto advance. I end up having to close 10+ dialogue boxes when I'm done just to make the float view disappear.

YES YES THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED!!!

The Float View will only appear when there is a field highlighted that is not an select field because the system is waiting for an input like Point ID or Feature Code etc. but when you get into the Select control (entering an Easting in the Create Point Commend for example the Float View is replaced with a Snap List Command stack / Context Menu - this is expected behavior.

What are you wanting to show up - we display a Context Sensitive Menu on Right Click appropriate to the field that you are working in - if you want to call up a different command at that point you have Menus, Toolbars or Hit Keys to get at another command.

If you want to close all currently open commands hit the X in the top Right corner of the command pane - that closes all commands that are open in one click.

When you say you want Auto Advance in Create Point Command - what exactly are you wanting it to do / how should it behave - if you check the sticky buttons beside Elevation and Height it enters either XY only or XYZ if you enter a value in Elevation - if you uncheck those then you have to hit Enter if you want to bypass the entry of an Elevation field. I dont really understand what you mean by an Auto Advance?

I would like the create point tool to run in a loop.

For example when creating a point using the Bearing-bearing method I click Create Point > Bearing-bearing. Once I've created the point I am left with a create point by XYZ dialogue box. If I want to create another point using Bearing-bearing I need to click Create Point > Bearing-bearing again. Once I am done creating points I am left with multiple Create point by XYZ dialogue boxes which I need to close to get rid of float view.

It would be nice if TBC remembered that my last create point was done using the Bearing-bearing method and ran this in a loop. (Similar to how create cogo remembers my previous data entry).

In Breakline - you are saying that you want it to ask Select Line - Break here, select line Break Here or Select Line and then Break Here and Here and Here right

I use Shift Tab to back tab in this case to select a different line - but I agree that the two modes are just like the two modes in Join command - will see if I can get that addressed

If you try the Voice Command TML - you can say SHIFT TAB and it will do the same as the keyboard SHIFT TAB that works quite well if you are in a quiet space - I also use the extra button on my mouse programmed as a SHIFT TAB to do this as well - but again I can see the need for the Sticky button on the Line field.

Correct on your first statement. I have times where I need both but truthfully the select and break select and break seems to be way more common with data prep. Some of the files are just so inconsistent it is hard to use some of the automated processes.

I am glad that voice command is becoming popular. I have used the macro and it works very well.

I want TBC to run like Terramodel. Trimble owns it, why can't they copy the best cad/survey/design software ever?

-Space bar for last command and esc for every command. I can draw in Terramodel 10 times faster with esc and space bar. To this day, if I am creating a lot of linework, I do it in Terramodel first and then import into TBC.

    - Right click favorites list.

-Current Layer for drawing any objects.

-The first page that pops up for create linestring is the biggest waste of time. Again, if there was a current drawing layer, it would not be needed.

-TBC requires too much mouse movement to be efficient. Autocad and Terramodel were designed for one hand on the key board and the other on the mouse. Easy one handed short cut keys and keying in commands. I have to go find commands in drop-down menus every time.

-When will we get Xrefs/RefFile? My files are way too bloated with redundant data!

Disagree with Lachlan, point command works fine; Could not agree more with @Thomas Tomsu

you can also create a side tab for more used tool.  I do not have the step on how to do the side tab,  I am sure its on here somewhere.

Break Line was addressed this morning and they are doing the Delete Line Segment now as well. If you have any other commands that need this change let me know ASAP and I will get them to add the Sticky Buttons as fast as I can.

One challenge with things like Break line and Delete line segment is that when you have Broken the line you now have two lines and we can only "auto select" one of them for the next break process - same with Delete line segment - this does the same thing. The way that the tool(s) work today is that when you break it it holds the first part of the line for the next action and deselects the later part of the line - so if you start at the end of the line and work back towards the start of the line then you can multibreak it or delete multiple segments in it.

The trim/extend command - One line to bound line would be another great place for this

    Create Pipe

By default I would like to always skip the invert to inlet distance

Something else to note here, when the from node or to node is active, there is no real delineation that this control is active. Maybe highlight in blue or a blue active dot.

Actually this would be more preferable and please note the recommended tab order. Debating if the form node should have tab stop and a sticky for lateral runs.

The issue with the tool right now is it assumes that when you create a run, the form node elevation is the same as the last to node elevation, which is not the case most of the time. There is usually (at least in our area) at least .1ft difference between the invert in and the invert out.

    Create utility node

Also please note the recommended tab order that I think would help speed up this tool

Curving line segments would be useful as a right click option, or As I had suggested before within edit lines be able to select a number of segments from the list when you view the table of segments, or multi select segments and set to curved/straight OR have a toggle command
