Move line work by center grip

Is there a way to move a segment precisely by grabbing the center grip and say "I want to move to the left 1 foot or to the right 3 feet".

This is very useful but you need something to snap to in order to get precise locations.

A TML could definitely accomplish this but I am looking more for something in the edit linestring interface or the ability to select the grip and have some options on what you want to do with it. Move perpendicular to the right, move perpendicular to the left, etc

Not sure on this one Pat - you can do this by Offset Line / pick a Segment, offset it by the distance and then if you want to move a Segment now you can use the center grip and move it to the midpoint of the offset segment. Creating a different command or extended function set for absolutely everything that people can possibly think of is not practical.

In this case I would draw a 3 Point rectangle to solve this - that way you can pick the 2 corners you want to keep and enter the width that you want and then delete your wrong dimensioned rectangle - it is quick and easy to do.

I've had a thought for some time on why we can not go into edit linestring/polyline/arc for an edit of the line length.   We can only review the lengths which should be an option.  It would be a much fast solution to edit the length then the coords.   i have wanted to extend an arc in the past week,  the extend did not work for an arc.

I guess something similar to the functionality of Sketchup where you can grab a line or a face and extrude out or push in. if you could tie a dimensions, I have not tried, than you could grab segments to make the appropriate lengths.

    More of a design tool.

Not super common but would be useful.

The trouble with that is all lines have two ends, changing the length moves what where - do you want to hold the center and move both ends an equal amount, do you want to hold the 0 end and move the other, do you want to hold the max end and move the 0 end, do you want to differentially move the two ends?  The Properties Pane does not really handle that type of selection and input.

You can use the Trim / Extend line command to Trim or Extend Lines and Arcs by a Distance and then pick the end that you want to move as that command has the User Interface to do exactly what you are asking for here.
