PDF cross sections

  • 1.  PDF cross sections

I'v been trying to learn / understand / use new new importing of pdf cross section sheets.

         1.   In all of my plans the PDF's don't have any actual text for the stations and elevations, these are just 'plines'.

does any one have any tricks for converting this to actual text ?

         2.   Also, the line work for the existing and proposed either comes in all on the same layer, or might be scattered all               over numerous layers.

Is this a function of how the designer created the PDF, or is there something I can do to "clean it up"

    1. I don't think there is a way to convert polylines into text.

2.This could be a function of both factors.

    • I would probably focus on isolating your existing surface first. Typically this lines spans the whole cross section and tends to be more consistent.
      1. Isolate the layer that the existing surfaces appears to be on
      2. Select all of the line work
      3. Convert to linestrings
      4. Use the advanced select
      5. Select data with a property of length
      6. Try to find an average length that is larger than the proposed surface
      7. Re-layer to your existing cross section surface
      8. You should now be left with just you proposed and maybe subgrade
