Simple Printing

When I do a takeoff I print the cut fill maps by using a plot box, rather than go thru the somewhat complex steps of drafting and dynaviews.

The problem is all I get is a piece of paper with my cut fill map, and nothing to show what job it is for.

Is there a way to add some basic information to the bottom of the page, such as file path and date,  much like you can do with 'footers' in excel or word ?

Learn how to use the drafting module. It's not as complex as you think. Make a dynaview collection (basically the same idea as the plot box), and then make your plan/sheet set with the paper size you want. Select your dynaview collection as your boundary set in that sheet set and it will display in sheet view. I always set view filter for the sheet set to My Filter, that way whatever you have selected in the view filter manager will show up in sheet view. Once in sheet view you can add the text or anything else you want to show up on the print. From there go to print plan set and you're done. I routinely do this to print cut/fill maps, once you get the hang of it you will never use the plot box again. You can save the sheet set and text you add to your project template and you won't have to add redundant text for each project.

If you're set on using the plot box though, just add some text in the plan view within the plot box and it should be there when you print.

I use the grading plan sheet with the cut/fill map transparency set to 70%. This way I have a record of which plan date was used for the takeoff. We seem to be getting a lot of revisions on projects these days.

I've had the same problem.  The plotbox looks to be the more simple option when printing but it is very limited and sometimes difficult to get what you want (especially when switching between 8.5x11 to 11x17 print sizes).  I've tried learning the drafting module but all the videos seem to be geared toward large complicated plan sets using corridors and none of them gave direction start to finish.  I would love a complete start to finish "How to Simple Plot" video tutorial using the drafting module.

I did post some really simple Drafting Templates and videos on how to use this - my recommendation is to use that approach - it is as simple as

    1) Import the Drafting Template

    2) Create a Dynaview Collection (get your sheet size and scale set)

    3) Associate the Dynaview Collection with the SHeet Set

    4) Build Sheets

    5) Print to PDF

OK it has one extra step and that is to Build The Sheets, two if you have to import the drafting Template but it is quick and easy and it will then have the data that you want on the sheet (if you set up the simple sheet as you want it (the File Name and Path  and Date and Time - I have added Project Name, Last Saved Date and Full Path to the Lower Left of this Drafting Template that has all US Sheet Sizes set up in it.

Does this work for what you wanted?

Let me know if there is anything else you need in this area or in a default template setup

    Alan,

Thanks for letting me know.  I honestly didn't see this older post and videos.  I've been using older videos posted on YouTube so I will definitely start checking here first.  Is there a page where you keep all the videos listed?
