Create Tool Tab (custom floating toolbar)

How can we create the custom Tool Tab that floats around the screen? I did it once, but cannot remember. You could drag and drop tools onto your tool bar.

I believe it's right click on the tool bar, then choose customize.

    Hi Tylor,

What TBC version are you running? The only toolbar in any recent version is the Quick Acces Toolbar. Press F1 within TBC and search for this help topic: Use the Ribbon Layout. This topic will tell you how to modify your ribbon tabs and the Quick Access Toolbar.

If you are using a version < 5.0 (as Erik's screenshot implies), you will need to search help for a similar topic (e.g., Customize the Toolbars).

You need to use F12 and then in command pane look for customize tools and tgatvopens a pop up dialog - in there you can define the toolbars you want and whether you want them docked or floating and if docked where you want them (top, left, right or bottom of screen - then you can add the commands that you want on each toolbar and set the size you want eg large or small icons

These are saved along with your menus and shortcuts in the menu ribbon.bin file created by the customize menus command.

Once created you can access them as Erik says using right click in a menu ribbon and select Customize (not customize menu)

    Hi Tylor,

I saw this post earlier and verified the steps in TBC v5.20 and in TBC v5.31 - but of course, when I get here, Alan's already replied with the answer

Launch the Command Pane (F12 default shortcut).

Run "Customize Tools" by typing "CustomizeT" in the text box or scrolling down the list.

The Customize dialog appears - letting you create/edit toolbars.

Once you add a toolbar (just one) and close the dialog, you'll be able to right-click on any toolbar and also, on the ribbon - and see these additional options (circled in orange):

So from the context menu, you can hide toolbars and "lock" them in place.  The "Customize..." option opens the same dialog as Customize Tools.

Note: There was a time when you had to check the box in Support (tab) > Options for "Use large icons for Quick Access toolbar" for the toolbars to work.  But it looks like you don't have to anymore - which is great if you didn't like the large icons...

As an encouragement: Simplifying the workflow to add commands to toolbars (even new ones) is on our near-term TML roadmap.
