TBC 5.0 Lockup at Opening File

  • 1.  TBC 5.0 Lockup at Opening File

    Posted 01-09-2019 14:30

Today I went to open an existing 5.0 file from the dashboard. The file locked up at Restoring Views (See Snap).

After waiting a while Ctrl Alt Delete. Which Created a .lk file and which created the "Do you want to delete the lock file ect" and still locked up.

I found if i deleted the .lk file and opened the file directly from the file folder from which the .vcl resides, the file opens no problem. Not sure why. I have attached the file below.

    Any ideas??

Thanks, TomLocks up and stays like this.

    Works Fine opening from Folder.

This is an issue that has already been reported and we believe is addressed in the TBC 5.01 Patch that is currently being finalized

    Hope that helps

I have version 5.2 and this message popped up this morning asking if I want to delet the lock. When I hit yes, it opened, but I lost 4 hours of work from yesterday. Is there a way to recover that. I thought that I had saved it.

In the projects folder there is a VCE and a ~VCE File - the File with the ~ is the last saved file before the current VCE File

The lock file is created when you open a project so that others that may have access to the file via a network or shared drive can only open the file in a read only mode.

We only save updates in TBC when you press the save button - at that time the VCE that was the previous save is moved to the ~vce and the new save is the VCE File. If you shut down your laptop while running TBC with an open project or if you get a crash that causes TBC to exit unexpectedly then the lock file is left in the project folder - so you get the

Message you saw on opening the project the next time - this deletes the lock file so that you can open the project in a read write mode again

If you lost 4 hours of work it is likely lost - I would turn on the save project reminder so that you get a save message while using the software every 30 mins or hour at least.

Unfortunately I would think that you have lost the work if you weren’t saving as you go - if you were saving then the ~VCE File May helps you - simply remove the ~ in the name and maybe rename the file as well and see if it opens - it is sometimes easier to backup the VCE file and remove it and then rename the~ file by removing the ~ that way the reference to the project folder of the same name remains in tact.

The Save reminder setting is in the Support - Options settings.

    Hi,
I have the newest version, 5.40 and I get this problem. My GNSS project became read only and I see a file with extension lk. I deleted the lk file but didn't help and again it appeared and again the project was locked. My project was working, I deleted one station, saved it and now I can not import any data because the project is locked. What do you recommend? Please help.

I suspect by deleting that one station you may have got your project into a state where it needs to recompute but it can't. A project will automatically recompute when you import another file so this will prevent you from importing further files. Also that fact that there was a lk file in your project folder seems to indicate that something happened to the project, either it crashed or was forced to shut down (if a project is exited normally, then the lk file should have been deleted). This may have contributed to the project getting into this state.
Do you have a back up of your project? Probably the best thing to do in this case to go back to a previous back up of your project. If you don't have a backup then you may need to recreate the project from scratch.

Thank you James for useful reply. I can make that project again quickly but I'm wondering why the project is locked every time I want to open that.  As you said, it might have crashed because of deleting one station, but I hope this doesn't happen next time when I delete a GNSS point from my project.  I will continue learning. I should add, I am just beginner with TBC and I am in the learning phase!
