Arc/Polyline Curve Direction flipping on export to Siteworks

  • 1.  Arc/Polyline Curve Direction flipping on export to Siteworks

I am seeing two instances of strange curve behavior. Please see the below images. Black background are snips from TBC. White background are snips from Siteworks Emulator.

    Instance 1

Correct Curve Direction - Trimble Business Center

When I check the design in the Siteworks emulator, I get the following curve.

Incorrect Curve Direction - Siteworks Design

    Instance 2

    TBC Design shows correctly.

Correct Curve Direction - Trimble Business Center

    vs.

Incorrect Curve Direction - Siteworks Design

The design is type: Alignment. 1632 objects in design map, mainly alignment label entities.

After I first saw the issue I started running project cleanup prior to adding linework to the design. I also went back to the base file in Civil3D and made the linework into polylines, 3dpolylines, and line/arc and I get the same result for these two curves no matter what I try. From C3D I export the linework as DXF for import into TBC.

    Any advice would be welcome.

    Regards,

It could be that those curves you are sending out have UCS on them - I would have to see the TBC data to check - if you click on the curve in TBC and look at its properties you will see the UCS information if it has that on it (these days this is quite common from CAD Files - you can use the Convert to Linestring command to remove those if present.

If these are 2D lines then again I would need to get the data to look at them

It could be a bug or it could be data related - if you redraw the arcs in TBC and send them do they work then?

Are you using VCL export to the Siteworks system or DXF output - let me know

Is this the first time you have seen this or is it happening on different projects

Can you send me the TBC Project VCE or the Alignment and rogue lines as a VCL exported file from TBC to take a look at. (Send to alan.sharp@rockpilesolutions.com or post here for me to download).

My money is on UCS object ending up in a VCL for Siteworks and Siteworks when it reads it is not reading the UCS like TBC does - that can be fixed by removing the UCS. The Convert To Linestring is in the RPS Data Prep Menu - try using that on the data and see if it works

Thank you for the quick response. Your first intuition was correct, the lines had UCS on them and running the Convert to Linestring command removed the UCS info. After re-writing the design map everything is looking as it should in Siteworks.

I've found the options for finding data with UCS, so many thanks to the TBC team! It is fantastic to avoid picking through the lines. Accordingly, this turned from mild inconvenience to good learning experience.
