Feature Request - Points Import

When importing a .csv point file, it would be nice if we could select "new layer" in the pulldown menu asking what layer to import the points to.  That can then open the layer manager to create a new layer for those points to go into.

If you don't drag and drop and actually click import then select the file. It will give you the option on what layer to put it on

I see that I can select what layer to put it on, but sometimes I would like to create a new layer, and it would be nice to have "new layer" as a selection and then be able to create a new layer for those points.  It just interrupts my workflow if I forgot to create a new layer before trying to import points.

Yeah that makes sense. I just try to remember to create a new layer before I import. It would be nice to have that option on that drop down.

About half the time when importing points I realize I haven't created a layer for them yet. I think the option to add points to a new layer from import would be great.

Usually you can hit spacebar on a layer window and it pops up the layer manager, looks like they missed this one.

I suggest mapping the New Layer command to a hot key for cases like this, it saves so much time rather than trying to find the icon and is just as quick as having it in the dropdown.  I map mine to CTRL+L

I just tried this and there are a couple of issues

    1) If you have a hot key to create a new Layer (I use CTRL N) it will let you create the New Layer but that is not a Layer that is selectable in the Layer List pulldown, because the list presented is compiled when you run the command, so adding a New Layer while possible doesn't help here unless you close the command and restart - use CTRL N before running the Import command to create the Layer and you will be good to go here

    2) The Space Bar should be enabled here but it isn't - it should be - I will log that in as a defect. If you use the space bar, the layer you create should be selected on closing the new Layer dialog - thereby acting like the New Layer option at the bottom of the list.

I am told that in this type of dialog, adding a New Layer option is hard because of the type of control being used / or that is available to the developers on Importers - so hopefully 1 or 2 here can be addressed to make this work better.

While a minor issue, I get the need here and while solvable today with the creation of the Layer prior to import - it would be good to address this also.

Outside of working with large files that are slow to change view filters, I find no issue with creating a new view filter, then just select to just display that import file to relayer the points, creating a new layer in that menu. Then I delete that view filter when I'm done. I can't imagine it would normally take me more than 45 seconds to do that.

The option for prefix imported data should exist in either drag and drop, and or import. Especially when considering survey and earthworks operations.  There is an issue with processing feature codes and them defaulting to layer names when the layers / could / should be in different model / date / zone areas.
