Take a look at the discussion thread I just posted Eric - having discussed with development I have just posted a discussion thread on this.
The selection methods
Select by Layer
Advanced Select
Select Similar
Select by Elevation
are all Database Selections - and by Design allow the selection of objects with the defined parameters to be selected whether or not they are visible. This is "As Designed" in the software, and has been the case in BC-HCE as well as in TBC. This of course does mean that if you select by these methods and then delete that you could be selecting and deleting data by mistake. These methods scan all Views and the entire project database and select all objects that match the defined criteria.
The selection methods
Select by Polygon
Polygon Select
Rectangle Select
Click to Select
CTRL + Click or SHIFT + Click to Select
are all Graphical selection methods. The graphical selection is made in a specific view and only of graphically visible objects. With these methods you cannot select hidden objects (unless you e.g. Invert the Graphics to select hidden objects and then Invert back again (then the objects selected while inverted will be selected).
The discussion thread I posted covers this and asks for input on the question as to whether this is a problem or not. I am actually going to amend my Menu Ribbons to have Graphical Selection and Database Selection Groups in the menu to try and make this clearer for users as a result of the call today.
Really appreciate you taking the time to go over this with me
Alan
