TBC not handling my Site Calibration

Is someone able to assist please? I carried out a site calibration using Trimble Access and had no issues whatsoever. When importing the files into TBC however I am unable to process the site calibration and get the following error message: "Some points could not be computed due to transformation errors. Check your actual coordinate system settings." The flags pane also tells me that the points are "Out of bounds". I've tried a number of different options including setting the project up on different coordinate systems and still get the same issue. The odd thing is that the only calibration point which doesn't get flagged upon import is the point that didn't have an elevation. This led me to believe it was a geoid issue so tried changing  geoids and even taking the geoid out however this did not change the outcome. I have attached some screenshots, DC file and JXL file straight out of the data controller. Importing the attached JXL file into Propeller Aero gives me an error stating that a valid projection is needed. I'm just confused as to why it works in Trimble Access and nothing else. I'm convinced that I am doing something wrong however after spending nearly 8 hours on it I am at a loss.

Thank you in advance for any help.Error Message

    Hi Julian,

I noticed that your grid coordinates are very far from the Zone 56 projection center, therefore your site calibration requires a 6.9 million meter translation in Northing, which exceeds the earth radius.

When TBC performs the site calibration, it needs to calculate the global -> local transformation, then local -> grid. This is impossible in this dataset. You'll notice that your points only have grid coordinates (which are inherited from Trimble Access) and global coordinates, because the local coordinates (still in lat long) are probably out of the Earth and cannot be computed.

I tried to move your grid points closer to a more reasonable position, then the error message is gone. With that being said, I don't know if your project allows you to move those grid points. If you have to stick with those, you may need to use a different projection in Trimble Access, where (5000, 5000) is not too out of range in it.

    Thanks.

    Thanks Riu,

Its odd that TBC wouldn't handle this as in the past we have had sites with small coordinates. I added a false easting and false northing to the site and then it removed my calibration however the points were still stored for the calibration so when I applied it again it computed the calibration without any error messages and all of the flags disappeared. I'm not sure if this is the correct way to do it but it seemed to work ok. It is still having trouble in Propeller Aero as it is giving me an error stating that the project must have a valid projection so not sure how to overcome the issue completely.

    Thank you

It seems to me that the site calibration was computed, but it gives flags. This could be an instance to ignore the flags?

There's been an enhancement request to allow the user to "acknowledge" a flag which could turn off the flag since the flags are intended to get the user's attention based on settings that will cause flags, e.g. 10" total station tolerance setting but the different from F1 to F2 was 12" - it's not bad data and there's nothing the user can do about that flag aside from changing the flag setting to be 13".

    Thanks Robert,

I don't mind ignoring the odd flag if I know what the cause is and for this I would ignore but the only problem is that although I am able to write out the jxl file for import into Propeller Aero it still wont accept it as it doesn't recognise it as having a 'valid projection'. Not sure if this is a Trimble issue, a Propeller Aero issue or the usual (and most likely) user issue. I mean there is a work around available for this particular project but I feel that the software should be capable of transforming the coordinates by whatever magnitude the used decides. I'm going to do a fresh install anyway as I am also getting other random error messages in (like when I try to change coordinate systems on a blank job) so will try again once this has been done.

    Thanks for your help

    Hi!

Looks like your site calibration was not computed automatically. If you see the false north and false east in your projection, does not match with the first point pair or your mean of point pairs. Try updating your projection definition using the first point pair.

I attached the new .jxl and .dc

I hope this information would be helpful.

    Thank you Miguel,

My computer still gives me the same error but also if I use this method it reverses my coordinate system back to the GPS coordinates not the local site. I will do a re-install of TBC anyway as I am getting other errors. This is good to know though as another way to change my project definition.

    Thanks for your help.

Hi. Well Using the new .jxl and dragging a dropping the .csv and looking with google earth, you can see the local coordinates. I recommend please not to select any published coordinate system when you have local coordinates. It is better doing the site calibration automatically without a published coordinate system.

I attached the .vce in two version. 4.12 and 5.10

Good advice! I haven't done many site calibrations, but my vendor recommended me to set my Access coordinate system to WGS84 aka no coordinate system.

    Aah thank you Miguel,

That makes sense to me. I had previously set my job up in access to be in MGA94 (an actual coordiante system) and then proceded to carry out a site calibration. I will in future set my project up on a blank template. I brought your files into my TBC and it worked better than the workaround that I had. Many thanks for the help everyone.
