TC V5.3 issues with Propeller orthophoto

  • 1.  TC V5.3 issues with Propeller orthophoto

The topic is connected to the following discussion from last year Orthophoto disapearing

I have got an issues with images from Propeller. They are usually quite large. Until now there wasn't one Propeller JPG I had no issues with to just dragndrop into TBC. Unless it was the lowres version that is worse than TBC's own background satellite imagery.

In that example here the resolution is 43664*65500 pixel. Should be about 8.6 GB in RAM.

My computer does have enough memory, so it shouldn't be a problem either way, tiled or untiled.

They either get stuck through the Tiling Process. Progress bar stops and CPU usage goes to Zero.

If it is the same image it usually gets stuck at the exact same percentage. I have to kill TBC in Taskmanager if that happens.

Or I just see an empty frame.

Tried playing around with OpenGL and DirectX and Notiling+Down-Sample 8192x8192. The latter one gives me the following error

I've also reached out to Propeller that they might add an option to download 1/2 or 1/4 resolution images.

Has anybody had the same issue and found a way to import them.

For the time being I'm using Gimp to resize the image and manually change the pixel size in the JGW.

Unfortunately Gimp might have a bug as well since sometimes the saved JPG is only readable in Gimp itself but not by i.e. Win10 photos or TBC.

Have you tried the Support - Options - Images to change between Tiling / No Tiling and Downsizing the image in TBC. Each time you change the Options, the image will be reprocessed and you may need to start at the Lowest Resolution Image and work your way up till you find the point that breaks.

I know Propeller has two options - a Big TIFF which is typically not supported or a Zip of TIFF Images that are smaller Tiles that we can import as a series of images in TBC.

If you can share the Image I can take a look. It is not something that we can easily diagnose based on information about the problem only. If you have the Propeller Project and can share it with me I can also take a look there as well if needed.

    Let me know.

    Hi Alan,

I'll send you a Onedrive Link to your email address. It's two propeller downloads from two different sites.

It's not the multi GB TIFF's but the better quality Geo JPG's.

I did try the no tiling. The import finishes quickly but nothing appears on the screen.

If I use either of the downsampling options I get an error message

Using Tiling the behavior is unpredictable. Sometimes it finishes but no image can be seen on the screen. Sometimes it just stops in the middle of the tiling process.

    Ronny

I tried the same thing and got the same results, I sent the data over to Development and they tell me that they have fixed the issue in the Daily Builds that I will get tomorrow I hope. These are being prepared for an upcoming release. I assume something got broken here.

Apologies - I will let you know when I get the update and have tested both your data sets - I will hopefully get back to you before the weekend.
