I'm new to sheet view printing in TBC so this might be a problem with one of my settings, but I've noticed when I print directly from TBC using the print plan set function the print comes out of the plotter looking smudgy and awful.  However, if I print to pdf instead and then print the plan from acrobat, all the lines come out crisp and clean and it looks great.  Is there something I can do to print directly from TBC that will give me the same results as printing from pdf?

I'll be honest with you, I have never found a situation where it was worth it to print directly from a program. That goes for any program that I'm printing with. I wear many hats in this industry and for something as advanced as plotting a drawing, I always print to pdf first, then send to the printer. Very rarely will I print from a program, usually only excel.
