Smart Text Code for Large Area

  • 1.  Smart Text Code for Large Area

I've looked in forum and in F1 Help and see a lot of codes for Length, Area etc.

But I'm wanting the Area in Hectares not square meters. The Properties pane shows line area in Ha after the square meters. Even if I could do a Math operation on it and manual "Ha" Suffix after it would work.

Try going to project settings and then change the Area format under the units settings? does this work?

Ray: The project settings allow you to change units for the primary display only. The "Alternate" display is Hectares. So, in an Earthwork Report, or the Properties panel, area is shown first as square meters and then in brackets hectares (ha).

You can create a Text Label Style that will show Ha as a suffix. Check the screen shot I have attached to show the settings I used to create the ".3 ha" label for a polygon. In the Drafting Tab on the Ribbon choose Label Style Manager

    Tab: Polygon Styles

    New: AREA Ha

I left the text as is (default)

Properties: I used Large Area (this is the "alternate" display from Project Settings under Area)

You can see in the Preview what it looks like.

Ray: Check the short screen video I have attached to see the way I did it. In the Label Style Manager you can make the text any size you want. I just did the default size (Standard) to make the video.

    Hope this helps.

    Marshall,

Thanks for the Tip. I hadn't thought of doing that way, but works. Good Think'in 99

I would like to have a Smart Text Code for it, but we'll see what Trimble come up with in future updates.

I have thought some more and think that some MATH operators would be good for more customisations of things?

I will add that duty to my extensive Macro Programming Wishlist, that I have yet to master.

There is a smart code for that. The typical area code is @<A,O,F>@. This code would be A=Area, O=Area from object, F=Don't add suffix.

If you want to specify the number of decimals to display, then use "@<A,O,T,3>@" (where 3 is the number of decimals).

If you want to use the "Large area format", use "@<A,O,T,2,T>@" where I used 2 for number of decimals. The 5th value specifies to use the alternate format (Hectares in metric)

    Many thanks Gary.

Is there documentation showing these obscure codes?

I often have to report Volumes for Dams in Mega Liters (ML) 1 Million Liters  so I have codes for Earthworks Total Fill Volume in Meters and then have to mentally convert 1000 Litres per 1 Cubic Meter. I.e Divide by 1000 to get Mega Liters. This is where I would like to use some of that Math operations. Do you know if I can setup up alternate Units to show in the way you have shown above with the 5th "T" code? Again this another Macro option I may get to when I can get time to learn Macro production.

    Thanks Again for the help.

Have asked Gary to respond - you guys don't want much do you .....

    Happy modeling day

I agree that being able to perform math functions within smart text would be a huge benefit.  My current use would be to convert units:  feet to inches, feet to m, feet to mm, etc. for lengths, elevations, and cut/fill values (from points to surface).  Hope you can help Alan.  Thanks.
