Cursor slow with a 4K monitor

  • 1.  Cursor slow with a 4K monitor

    Posted 05-15-2019 01:43

I have changed to 2 4k monitors. Now i have problems working with TBC 5. When the cursor gets over the plan- or 3D-view the cursor gets slow and it is difficult to point at something.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T460. My resolution is 3840 x 2160, scale is at 150% and refresh at 29hz.

What could be the problem and how can i fix it?

    With kind regards

I have been seeing the same behavior and will be taking it up with development again today for the v5.1 Release. Mine seems to get slower as time passes using the software. I made some modifications to my Nvidia configuration and that appeared to help a bit yesterday but for sure I am seeing this too.

    Hello Alan

Thank You for your reply. I really hoped it was me.

I had ordered a new graphic card. But that apparently will not do the job?
    What modifications did You made.
I hope this problem will be fixed soon, because it  really slows me down
and its exhausting to work with this issue.

    with kind regards

I am working on it Carsten - if you run at 1920 resolution are you still seeing the slow cursor issue?

In my Nvidia Card Settings, there is an Option to Set the Intel or Nvidia or Auto as the Default and then in another Tab you can set the Graphics Card to use for your different Applications - I reset mine to Auto for TBC and for the Default and this has made some difference - it has not totally fixed my issues but it appears to have improved a bit at least.

I notice that it gets worse with time also - are you seeing the same issue - i.e. if I am working for several hours in the product, after a while or after I do something specific, things really slow down - and I cannot tell if it is TBC or another application that is causing the slow down as I use Camtasia a lot as well as Web Meetings etc and those could also be having an effect on my productivity.

I have the same problem when remote using Splashtop.  Our IT guy has me do a %temp% and delete the temp files on both computers at a regular period of say, an hour or so, and it really seems to help.  I do the same to both the office computer running TBC and the one I am RD'ing in from.  Hope that helps.

    Michael

Can you give me a little more detail here - where do you do the %Temp% (File Explorer, Command Line etc.) I would like to try that on my computer also to see if that fixes my issue

Please give me some detailed steps here so I can follow you

Carsten: had the same problem. For me my refresh rate at 30Hz was too slow. As soon as I bumped that up (to 59/60Hz)all the slowness/lag went away.

Thank You all for your feedback.

The problem is now solved. I got a new computer and now everything works just fine.

My old computer had not the right specs. TBC is just quite demanding.

Now I'm working with this one.

    kind regards

I have also heard that the History Log Files can really bog you down on bigger projects - if you never use it - turn it off in Options / Project Management and uncheck "Save History Log Files"
