Disappearing Buttons

I have an issue that seems to be a personal issue, with various portions of the macro commands disappearing off the screen after moving the mouse cursor over them.  This has been happening for several years now, it seems to follow me from computer to computer when I upgrade, I'm not aware of it happening to anyone else, but if it does please chime in here.  I asked about the problem before as was directed to override the automatic detection for the graphics display driver and to update my graphics card driver.  I have tried all of the options available in the options menu for display drivers (DirectX 9, 11, OpenGL, etc., etc.)  with full system shutdowns and reboots in between.  I have tried every available graphics card driver, and various other settings options all to no avail.  I've also tried updating the BIOS, and changing a bunch of various settings within the BIOS and the graphics card options.  There is only one graphics card in the system, it does not contain an embedded one, at least not one that can apparently be turned off or on.  The graphics card in my current system is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, however this problem also existed in my previous two computers with different cards.  It makes it extra difficult to use any of the macro commands, and I would really like to get more into the Create Vertical Design macro.  The only other place this happens is on the Start Page.  It does not happen anywhere else in the software, only the Start Page and all the macro commands from both Trimble and RPS.  I've attached a brief video of the problem happening.  Anyone have any ideas?

That is weird Wayne but I feel that I have seen this somewhere before also but am trying to remember what I saw and how it was resolved. Is this just happening in TBC or also in other applications?

I am going to discuss with development - I think the issue is that when you hover over the icon, we normally highlight the icon with a highlight color, and it appears that your highlight color is either a transparent color or some color that obliterates the text, and that the highlights do not clear after you move the cursor away.

Let me see if I can get to the bottom of it for you - I can see that it is a royal pain

Have you changed your windows settings for Colors and highlights ?

    Wayne

While this is happening inside TBC, it is a Graphics Issue of some kind - it could be that you have a Display Setting in Windows Color configuration or that you have a Wallpaper Image that is affecting you, or it could be the way that you set up your Graphics Card etc. I am no expert in any of those areas but it is strange that these issues show up inside TBC only and no other application. If you have done a clean install after a cleanup utility use and it is still doing this, I would ask you to create a support ticket with your SITECH and have them work it with Trimble Support as I dont typically get involved in solving system level issues like this as this is not normal behavior of course. The fact that you have now had it on several computers indicates that maybe your corporate IT team are installing something that interferes with TBC - I have no idea what that could be, however you may want to discuss that with them.

I hate saying that I cannot help, but in this case, I have asked development and they did not seem to have any idea what it could be, so the best bet is to take it up with your SITECH and then with Support to see if they can get to the bottom of it.

I will share this with Support and ask if they have ever seen something like it.

Thank you for responding Alan.  I can confirm that it only happens in TBC, and only in the macro commands and start page within TBC.  Its possible you're remembering hearing the same thing from me before as I think it was 3 or so years ago when I last mentioned it.  I hadn't thought about Windows color schemes, I'll try messing with them.  At one point about a year ago with this computer I am using now I had a complete Windows malfunction that required resetting back to factory (no big deal, I backup every night).  At that point with everything refreshed like new from the factory, I did a fresh install on TBC, I think it was 5.1 at that point, without applying any of my settings or customizations and before doing anything else at all to the computer and it still continued to do that.

I'll try the support ticket route.  Thanks again for looking in to it.

I have a custom tool bar that "disappears" all the time. I usually get it back by clicking on an open part of the ribbon or turning it off and on again (when in doubt reboot amirite?).

I have the same issue. Ever since I purchased this new laptop.

Good to know its not just me.  Do you know what graphics card you have?

    Guys

I had a discussion with developers today, and they are wondering if this could be the issue you are seeing, and asked if anyone would be prepared to try this out for us as this is a System + TBC issue as it is not happening everywhere

They think it may be caused by a DIrect X clash of some kind with what is termed WPF which is a set of tools that are used to define the User Interface of TBC. This has nothing to do with the Support - Options - Advanced Direct X setting apparently. According to development WPF utilizes Direct X. Direct X on Windows 10 Machines is installed as part of Windows 10. However TBC Installer also installs Direct X during installation but it can be disabled in the User Interface of the TBC Installation program.

Could any one of you that are having this issue on a Windows 10 box try the following

    1. Deinstall TBC
    2. Run the latest Cleanup Utility
    3. Reboot
    4. Install TBC v5.31 but disable the DirectX installer in the TBC Installation Program to stop a version that we ship from getting installed (allowing the version that is current with your Windows 10 OS to be the one that is used with the WPF tools that we use)
    5. Reboot
    6. Start TBC and see if you still have the same problem and report back

I apologize ahead of time if this does not work - we don't want to waste your time, however because it is likely a System + TBC combination issue it  hard to recreate a similar environment to test against.

    Thanks

    Alan

Alan, Thank you for continuing to look into this.  I tried the steps just as you listed but still have the exact same issue.

I am experiencing this same issue. I have followed the steps above to no avail. Our IT couldn't resolve the issue either as they feel it is within the software, not OS/driver/GPU related.

    Nvidia RTX 2060

    All current drivers and bios

Any further assistance is much appreciated.

Sorry its happening to you but glad to hear its not just me.  I know how maddening it is.

    Thanks, and agreed.

The only way to get the buttons to reappear is to minimize TBC or move it to another monitor, repeatedly.

@Alan Sharp, I just downloaded and installed some new TML updates through TML status, including an updated TML status and now this disappearing buttons issue is completely gone!!!!!  Not sure what changed or where but all the TMLs including vertical design and all of them are all working as they should be now!

    Cheers

Weird - I dont think that had anything to do with us really - I think that

there is an Infragistics update that Trimble added in 5.32 that we tap into

with the TMLs so the combination of the two may have addressed your issue.

Infragistics is what controls all of the Buttons and UI in TBC.

Good to hear that a little Rockpile Magic got you sorted.

I believe the issue fundamentally is still not resolved. I have the disappearing buttons continuously.

Still keeping my fingers crossed for a resolution as it is maddening!

5.32 didn't seem to resolve the issue. My floating custom tool bar constantly disappears. I get it back by clicking on an open space in the ribbon. Sometimes that doesn't do the trick and I am forced to turn it off and on again.

Video card drivers, bios, etc are all up to date. Hoping for an resolution soon as @Andy Deveney pointed out, it is quite maddening. It is also counter productive and counter to the whole purpose of creating custom tool bars in the first place.
