Corridor crashing TBC

I have a corridor in my project that causes TBC to stop functioning whenever I try to edit a template or add a template to it.  I am working in v5.00.1.  I've tried exporting the corridor to a vcl and importing that vcl to a clean project, but get the same problem.  I tried opening the vce file with v4.12 but get the same problem when trying to edit a template.

My only guess as to the cause is that I deleted the original ground surface that it was using and then replaced it with a new surface of the same name.  I don't know if that would cause this or not.  But whatever the cause is, I am totally unable to view or change the template in anyway.

I tried to upload the vce file, but it is too large.  I exported the corridor to a vcl which is small enough to upload.  The name of the offending corridor is "Ramp A."  If you create a blank project using standard US Survey Feet template that ships with the software, and import this vcl, you will see the error when trying to edit the template.

If anyone can offer some insight on what might be wrong with it I will greatly appreciate, I am really pulling my hair out.

The situation has gotten worse.  I accepted my fate that I just may need to start over, so I deleted the corridor and started a new one, but it does the same thing.  When I try to create a template business center stops working and closes.  Some corridors seem to work fine, but there are others in addition to the one I am currently working on that also are causing it to crash.  I've tried it in v4.12 with the exact same results.

Some more info:  it appears that this error is occuring in all of my projects on all of my corridors.  I thought some corridors were working, but it was only because the one that seemed to be working starts at a station with no surfaces.  When scrolling down station as soon as it hits a surface Business Center stops working and closes.  It is doing this in all my project files.....files that have been working until today.

I tried reinstalling business center with no success.

I don't have much insight for you, but I was able to open your VCL file on my PC and everything works fine for me.  I can edit and add to your template instructions and add new templates, with no crashes.  I was able to create corridor surfaces as well.  Not sure this helps you out, but at least you know it works elsewhere.Corridor

Your file worked on my 5.01 installation OK Wayne - I was also able to add instructions to the Template OK

We cannot think of any reason why this could happen on all your files - that indicates that it is either TBC Installation problem or a PC Problem - Maybe it is a config file that remembers all your multi screen and multi view / pane setups that got corrupted somehow when you crashed and that needs to be deleted and reset to defaults

Delete the contents of the folder at path C:\Users\asharp\AppData\Local\Trimble\Trimble Business Center\31.0 (substitute your username for mine

Also Delete the contents of this folder - it will get reset and it may mean you have to reset your Options and Linestyles and other User Controlled things, but this may help C:\Users\asharp\AppData\Roaming\Trimble\Trimble Business Center\31.0

This will get you reset to defaults - let me know if this doesnt work Wayne

So long story short, I got it to work.

Thank you @Brian Jurgella and @Alan Sharp for input.

I had tried uninstalling and deleting everything trimble related on my computer, including the folders Alan mentioned.  Then reinstalling TBC and it was still doing it.  I decided to do a Windows system restore back to a date when I knew it was working.  After several hours of that, it was restored and the problem was gone, but a lot of things were screwed up I assume from me having deleted all the trimble stuff.  So I then after having done the windows system restore, then uninstalled all trimble products and reinstalled again.  And now 12 hours later I am back in business.

Alan, is there anything I might be able to send to you that might indicate what the issue was?  I imagine there probably is not, as it seems like it was an issue unrelated to Trimble.

Thanks again for the help guys!  I think its time for some medicinal whiskey.

Wow - it is not uncommon for Windows Update to totally screw you up - I have that issue on my wife's pc to solve this weekend

Glad you are back up and running Wayne - I don't think this was us - I have never encountered anything like it - although a bad crash can corrupt a windows file so anything is possible

I have just started having this same problem yesterday.  Trying to edit a corridor crashes TBC.  Thinking the problem was with the one corridor, so I recreated the corridor.   Restarted, same crash.  Several attempts, same crash. Today, I opened a different project and crashed right after trying to edit the corridor.

I tried creating a very simple corridor in a new file... as soon as I got the the "edit" template, TBC crashed.

I tried changing the "graphic display driver", since that has helped problems in the past.  No luck.

There was an automatic windows update yesterday.

    HELP!!!

My issues were caused by Turbo Tax install. I uninstalled Turbo Tax and the issue was eliminated.

    Jen

The only thing that I can suggest is to Restore yesterdays version of

Windows - we can only test a release on the version of Windows that is

current at the time of release - if windows does something after that date

that screws us up, all we can do is try to fix at our next release or get a

Patch out to solve the problem.

I will report the issue in - we have heard that Windows Update and TurboTax

for Desktop are both doing some things that cause us issues - only choice

is De Install the Updates or programs and work as you were yesterday

    Sorry I cannot help further

Thank you - uninstalled Turbo Tax and I'm back to work.  I may go to jail if I don't get these taxes filed, but at least I can pay for bail since I'm back to work

Thank you, Robert Nava, I would not have suspected TT since I have TT 2017 still installed.

You have to finish your taxes and uninstall turbo tax then you should be back in business. Good luck!

The QA Team have now finished their Review of this issue - Here is their response

The TurboTax 2018 install was corrupting the Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 runtimes used by TBC's Hoops module.

TurboTax was most likely replacing versions of the Visual C++ 2017 runtimes (possibly with older versions). Uninstalling TurboTax and then re-installing the runtimes provides a temporary fix (until TurboTax is installed again).

    Solution:

    1. Uninstall TurboTax
    2. Re-install the Visual C++ 2017 runtimes:
      1. Uninstall all Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributables
      2. Re-install the redistributables by browsing to each VCRedist2017_* subfolder where the TBC setup.exe is located.
      3. Run each installer from the subfolder.
    3. Re-launch TBC.

The runtimes are typically installed to the Windows Component store (WinSxs) which allows multiple versions to co-exist in case a consuming application requires a specific version. TurboTax should not be replacing existing versions but instead install them side-by-side. I have entered defect 67516 if we need to investigate further - this will require purchasing a TurboTax download as there is no trial version available.

    My Final Comment

There is little to nothing we can do about this - since Turbo Tax is the Corruptor here i guess if you want this problem fixed then you need to ask Turbo Tax to address their issues here. Above is a fix to the problem, we cannot stop them from doing this of course - so I go back to the original recommendation to use Turbo Tax Online or a different program to do your Taxes - since emigrating or hiding from the IRS are not likely great future looking options ....
