Vertical Design Tools and Breakline Approximation Parameters

First go around with the Vertical Design tools and I have a question regarding break ine approximation parameters.

When changing breakline approximation parameters - maximum sampling distance settings, it appears when you change the maximum sampling distance for the vertical design created surface that this also forces the change to be applied to all surfaces within the design file.

I don't know if this setting exists but it would be nice to have an option to control breakline sampling distances for each individual surface.

You have a project setting that controls this for all surfaces but you can change the parameters for individual lines or a selection of lines through the line properties - you should change the line properties for all the members of a selected surface if you just want to change one surface - if the same line is used in several surfaces then you have only one control on that line that will affect both surfaces

When I select the linestrings associated with the non-vertical design surface and set the override segment length to No and then change the Vertical Design Surface sampling distance to 5' it is still changing the sampling distance to match the settings from the Vertical Design Surface.  None of the vertical design surface members are surface members of the non-vertical design surface.

    Thanks,

The setting on the Vertical Design dialog is exactly the same as the one in the Project Settings - it controls all surfaces in the project.

The control on the Linestring(s) is the only override that you have - if you don’t want to change surfaces you already built then you can set the property for Rebuild Method on those to By User and they will not get changed until you select to Rebuild Surface etc.

The change of the linestrings allows you to control the densification, chording parameters on those independent of the Project Settings

    Hope this helps
