Interior Surface Edge Breakline

    #enhancementrequest

    @Alan Sharp

Looking for a method to clip a surface model as an interior edge breakline.  We receive surface models from outside sources that may need to be clipped and then add additional breaklines to model buildings or structures.

An example would be we receive a surface model from an outside source that includes a building pad set at finish floor but the architectural/structural floor design for the building has sloped floors because of floor drains.  It would be nice to have an option to add an edge breakline as either an outer or inner edge breakline.  The inner breakline could be used to clip the original FG surface model and then add additional breaklines generated for modeling the sloped building floor as members of the FG surface model.  This would eliminate having to generate a seperate building floor surface model and merge that with the FG surface model.

Hopefully I am not missing a command that does this already.

You can add any closed line to a surface as a Surface Boundary - the surface Boundary will do what you want. The surface should have an Outer Boundary (you can use a Surface Edge Breakline but it has to be added to the surface as a Surface Boundary. If you then have one or more boundaries inside the Outer Boundary they will act as Holes in the model. The outer most boundary creates an Island, the next boundary creates a hole, the next boundary another island etc alternating from Surface to No Surface (hence the need for an Outer Boundary. So you can use the same Boundary Line as an Inner Boundary to make a Hole in one surface and as an outer boundary in another surface to make an island in the same space.

The Boundary Lines are non destructive - i.e. the data inside the hole or outside the boundary line is still there, it is just hidden from view and from the calculation engine.

You can achieve the same thing by adding a Null Texture / Null Site Improvement to a surface inside a linestring that belongs to the surface that is set to Sharp and Texture Boundary Property - A Null texture is literally that - use the Apply Surface texture command and dont pick a texture and just place the "Null" in the boundary object and that will set all of the triangles in that area to Null (not exist) and will create a hole in the model.

Let me know if you need more help

I have used those methods you mentioned to create surface holes/islands. I was looking for a method to create a surface hole (imported XML for example) and then add new data to that hole overwriting the data that has been clipped by the inner surface boundary.

I am modeling several containment structures whose floors sit below the FG model and have curb walls extending above the FG surface. I was looking for a method to avoid merging several surfaces together as I model each structure.

    Thanks.

Can you share an example and I will show you how I would do it tomorrow.

You may just need to clip the source data for the surface you want to

create a hole in. If the surface is a LandXML TIN then use the Explode

Surface TML Macro to convert the TIN into 3D linework and then it will work

    - maybe that was your issue - I was thrown by "LandXML" as they can include

TIN Only or TIN and Source Data (Points and Lines) - you have no editing on

a TIN only (TTM, LandXML etc.) but if you Explode it using the TML you can

then Edit the newly created source data. Maybe that is what you want here -

let me know or we can hat tomorrow on this.

You answered my question. I have not explored the macros in depth enough. When I get in from the field I will share the file I am currently working on. Thanks again.

Go to www.RockpileSolutions.com and download the TML Status command for TBC from there. Once installed, set up your Connect Login / Trimble ID in Options / External Service profiles. Then login to the Connect Services using the Trimble ID (from the tart Page or via the External Services profiles option.

Now TML Status should be on your Macros Tab - or at least in the F12 Command Pane. Run the command. That will list all the current Free Trimble TMLs that you can download and install and any chargeable macros that Rockpile have available (that you can purchase directly from Rockpile if you want them). You can tag all those that you want to install and then run and TML Status will download and install them all for you and then track them all going forwards so you can update them easily at any time. We are using this service with Rockpile to manage all of our In House developed TMLs to make it easier for you as Users to go to one place for TMLs.

Explode Surface was what I needed, thanks for the link to the TML Status Updater.
