RADIUS POINTS FOR LINES THAT HAVE ARCS

  • 1.  RADIUS POINTS FOR LINES THAT HAVE ARCS

I am struggling to create radius points for curblines in TBC.  there are about 200 arcs as part of the curblines.  it appears i must do this individually for every arc.  I find it had to believe TBC will not create radius points for a linestring with multiple arcs.  I would love to be shown otherwise.

My solutions is to use Terramodel which will automatically create the radius points and bring them back into TBC.

I have logged this in as a requested enhancement to the Create from CAD command

Turn the center snap and nearest snap on at the bottom menu, hover over the arc that is part of the line that you're trying to create a radius for until the nearest snap picks up the line, then you should see a center snap point at the radius of the arc. Click on that snap adding a point for the radius.

Thanks Adam, that works, but I have over 200 radius points.  this needs to be added to the points on line command.  i have the old Terramodel software that does this instantly, but it is a hassle to export the lines, create radius points, import them back in.

TBC is a very dynamic software, but sometimes I think some of the simple, but needed options are overlooked.

There is a workaround I found but depending on your data it might me more work that just clicking each radius manually.  The create from CAD command for centers only works on CAD arcs and circles.  So if you can break your curbline into individual lines at each vertex and export to dxf, when you re-import it the curved linestrings will become CAD arcs and you can use the FROM CAD command.  If your arc is connected to a tangent however it will become a CAD polyline and not work lol.

If there is a way to break a line at each vertex quickly then this would work in a pinch.

Ron, are these for staking purposes in the field? If so they could pick the arc from the background map and use the option of “stake center of arc”.  In Access we keep the alignment active as well as the curb line map layer and switch between the two routines.

If not.....create 50 at a time and then get some Air Therapy on the motorcycle in between:)

As long as your Radius is a stand alone line you can use the " Line mid Point" option.   This option will not work if the Radius is joined with a Tangent line.
